Jens Posted October 15, 2003 Posted October 15, 2003 What's your favorite crag? Not necessarily the best crag, but the one that you consider your "special place" here in the PNW. I don't mean area, but instead crag. Jens Klubberud Quote
erik Posted October 15, 2003 Posted October 15, 2003 damn dood that is a toughy. i think that i would have to go with either private idaho or prusik peak Quote
Distel32 Posted October 15, 2003 Posted October 15, 2003 I don't climb ropes much, but Smiffy Bouldering area would be more suitable for me: Squampton Quote

I don't mean area, but instead crag. Jens Klubberud it would have to be This Is Your Brain at Cheakamus Canyon. The beautiful scenic vistas of highway mayhem in one direction, and Tantalus Range in the other.... the funky ripples... the weird pro.... the spaced bolts... the half assed scrub job.... the death march approach and sketchy 3rd class to the base... you this crag has it all! come and visit! sal Posted October 15, 2003 Posted October 15, 2003 purely sentimental b/c the climbing isn't great. spring mountain...it's where i cut my teeth so to speak Quote
mattp Posted October 15, 2003 Posted October 15, 2003 Exfoliation Dome in Darrington. It has lots of the attributes that Dru described for his Cheakamus Canyon entry, but in a good way: a deadly approach with sketchy third class, weird ripply rock, weird pro, spaced bolts, half-assed scrubbing, mountain views, and (no highway) logging and mining scars. bobbyperu Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 thanks for sharing guys thats great!!! keep'em comin' yeaaahhh!!!! -bobbyp Quote
Off_White Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 I'd have to pick the crag in my front yard because, well, it's in my front yard. The climbing is good too, but it's like building your house on a trout stream or golf course (if those are your obsessions), the familiarity breeds a deep kind of love that in no way eclipses the joy of other adventures. chucK Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 This may not be a real "crag" like Jens was thinking about, but for me I'd have to say Snoqualmie Pass. And yes, a big part of Sno Pass for me is The Tooth. When I get out, many times it's short notice. Heading up to Sno Pass is quick and I don't need a partner. Because I go there so much, I am becoming more and more familiar with the place, learning about lots of nooks and crannies. That makes it feel like my "special place". Went up to Red Mountain yesterday. Did the Stoney Red Slabs route, no snow on the slabs, but snow mostly everywhere else at that elevation. Did some good trundling too . Heading up to the summit was postholing in crusty snow . Crazy man! I bet there's a ton more snow up there now. Quote

Dru Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 but which CRAG at Smiff? Monkey Face? Dihedrals? Picnic Lunch? Christian Bros? Upper Gorge? Rope-de-Dope? Shipwreck? Quote
daler Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 I second the lower town wall!! what a magical place with so much history. If I could have a crag in my backyard it would be the lower town wall. A close second would be the dihedrals of smith. dale Quote

layton Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 hmmm... ok after much (1 second) deliberation, I claim the LOWER MALAMUTE!!! I also want it back damnit! flip side, WORST CRAG: Gov. Lister Cliffs on Chuckanut Dr. Abismal. Quote
PONCHO&LEFTY Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 GLISTER=bad OH NO! There is a lifetime of oportunity there. You could climb a route then scratch and scrape in a new route in the wall of sand for unlimited new climbs. Quote

ScottP Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 To be honest, I've never explored the bouldering possibilities, but further down the slope, it looks like there are some. Quote
