allthumbs Posted August 11, 2003 Posted August 11, 2003 While driving to the Spa this morning on Interstate 5, I looked over to my left and there was a woman in a brand new Cadillac doing 65 mph with her face up next to her rear view mirror putting on her eyeliner. I looked away for a couple seconds and when I looked back she was halfway over in my lane, still working on that makeup. As a man, I don't scare easily, but she scared me so much; I dropped my electric shaver, which knocked the donut out of my other hand. In all the confusion of trying to straighten out the car using my knees against the steering wheel, it knocked my cell phone away from my ear which fell into the coffee between my legs, splashed, and burned Mr. Happy and the Twins, ruined the damn phone, soaked my trousers, and disconnected an important call. Damn women drivers ! Quote
b-rock Posted August 11, 2003 Posted August 11, 2003 Ya and last week on me motorbike I almost got run over by an asshole drifting into my lane while using an electric shaver... driving an suv no less... Quote
Dan_Harris Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 Oh yeah, those evil SUVs, they makes drivers even more stupid. Pulled up to red light once and saw a quite animated converstion in sign language from the car next to me. Do not know who was deaf, driver or passneger, but the conversation continued as we pulled away with the green light. Quote
Fence_Sitter Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 damned red-necks... i got a concussion and a carbon fiber enema today! Quote
MissNormandy Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 I got my first traffic ticket yesterday for not clearing the intersection before the light turned red. Quote

My wife, a former Seattle area LEO, quotes the law to me as follows: "If you cross the stop bar (the white crossbar at the front of the line of the intersection) on the leading (closest) side of the intersection before the light turns red, without accelerating to beat the light, you are within your rights to occupy the intersection while in transit." As long as you didn't "gun it" to get into the intersection before the light turned red, or stop in the intersection after the light turned red, the officer has no right to ticket you for "not clearing the intersection" if you entered during the yellow phase of the signal cycle. While I don't know the exact circumstance of your particular situation, you may certainly have recourse in this regard. I would research the RCW and find that law, make a copy of it, and go to court armed with that fact, and plead your case and you'll get your fine reduced, and possibly even have the case dismissed. YMMV. Quote

YMMV. I gunned it. I saw it turn yellow and I hit the gas. I never saw red but it's not like I was looking straight up as I went undet the light. I'd rather just take responsibility for my irresponsibility and pay the $100, which they desperately need anyway, than go into court and look like a righteous whiny bitch trying to get out of trouble and then have the cop put in the tape and show the judge exactly what he saw, me hitting the gas to beat the light and not quite making it. It could have been a lot worse than it was considering that my boyfriend did not have his current proof of insurance in the vehicle I borrowed, not to mention my inability to find my driver's license and the registration in my fumbling panic. The more I think about it, the more lucky I feel and the less resentful I feel towards all the people who told me, "I get pulled over all the time but they always let me go..." Quote

jon Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 I'm getting really tired of these people with big Expeditions or whatever and their American flag stickers who drive like total assholes. I had this woman totally cut me off today and couldn't help to think how patriotic it was. Quote

iain Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 even better is the jacked up jeep with the two HUGE flags billowing out the back (I think the guy ripped them off from some burger king or something). Usually seen flooring it towards a red light only to burn about 50 bucks of rubber off his mud boggers. Quote

kitten Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 When the hell does school start again? Not soon enough. I was rear ended by a young man a few days ago. The bumper of my car was fine (this is a true story - not a metaphor ) but his front end was trashed. The best part was watching mom - who was following behind his car - freak out on the cell phone. She was assessing how much damage she had to pay for while the young kid stood shaking with panic. Poor guy. Quote
