Brogan Posted February 18, 2003 Posted February 18, 2003 Does anyone know anybody that has done the Sisters Marathon or know anything about it? Quote
b-rock Posted February 18, 2003 Posted February 18, 2003 Oregon High has a few blurbs about it. Quote
rbw1966 Posted February 18, 2003 Posted February 18, 2003 This subject rears its head every year on the board. Do a search for more info. Quote
ryland_moore Posted February 18, 2003 Posted February 18, 2003 I think a WA man tried to solo it last year and never showed up at the trailhead of S. Sister when his Dad came to try and pick him up. Never found his body if I recall. Iain, got any comments? Quote
iain Posted February 18, 2003 Posted February 18, 2003 He's still out there somewhere. He started from Devil's Lake TH and headed north (which is unusual, usually people want to get the North Sister out of the way first). He was last seen heading over from the col between north and middle to start up the north sister. He was going really light, not sure if he had ice axe/crampons or what, and was well-known for speed-hiking the Paradise trail and stuff. Subsequent trips in have revealed no further clues. Areas of high poa would be west face of n. sister at this point but with so much rockfall it is a dangerous search area, and he was wearing black clothing. Â Real bummer was that it happened on father's day. Quote
sketchfest Posted February 18, 2003 Posted February 18, 2003 I thought they found that guy before the first snow fell this winter, seems Tim was on the recovery of that one...could be wrong! Quote
iain Posted February 18, 2003 Posted February 18, 2003 different guy, he was over by green lakes on the way to broken top. both disappeared the same year though. Quote
cracked Posted February 18, 2003 Posted February 18, 2003 Ouch. My dad nearly got killed on N. Sister by rockfall. Nasty mountain. Quote

Winter Posted February 19, 2003 Posted February 19, 2003 Hmmm ... probably shouldn't do it before the end of March ... and I may be in the NZ southern alps in early April ( ). How about the weekend of April 19 with April 26 as a backup? If you wanna go earlier then March 22 would work. Quote
scot'teryx Posted February 19, 2003 Posted February 19, 2003 A little information about Eric doing 2/3 of it Eric's Base Camp Quote
cluck Posted February 19, 2003 Posted February 19, 2003 Here's some info from a guy that did it last August: http://www.cascadesmountaineers.org/OutingReports/0208ThreeSistersMarathon/report.htm  Good Luck! Quote

rbw1966 Posted February 21, 2003 Posted February 21, 2003 Since this is called a Sisters Marathon and not a Bachelor and Broken Top Marathon, I think you're doing just fine to knock off the threesome in a 24 hour period. Â Winter--email me and lets set up a plan. The April dates work fine for me as March is already filling rapidly. NZ huh? We need to talk, I might be able to hook you up with some folks down there.
