It's how I roll. It avoids the unpleasantness so common elsewhere and I just find it humorous. Truthfully, no one gives a shit anyway - so I just post some banal-ass thing in spray. Once folks stop reading the thread and it's dead I go edit it with climbing info I would find interesting. It's put a few historical tidbits out there someone might search for or find interesting some day. Or not. Search on "Corn" for instance. Did you mean this, Bill?

If you like this sort of thing, and you enjoy the movie, then you should consider getting a copy of Eric Simonson's book, Ghosts of Everest. He's an IMG guide out of Rainier and he and some folks (Conrad Anker hooked up with Eric's team en route) repeated Mallory's route in 1999 in an attempt to prove his ascent (or not). They never found the camera. Eric gave his show for us (CWMR) in Yakima in 2003 as a fundraiser for our new truck. It was a great show, and he's a smashing guy. Give it a read!

Consider this: Someone drops their belay device, and asks the question, "Do I need to buy a new one?" Typical response is, "Isn't your LIFE worth $25?" So most people consider the cost/benefit ratio and "buy the argument" and go buy a new one and retire the old one. So it never gets used again. Ever. So we never learn if it would have failed or not. Now, occasionally, someone will NOT replace the dropped device. Did it eventually fail? Or did he/she just get lucky all these years? We'll never know that either. I know it doesn't exactly answer your question, but I'd posit that that's the way it goes the majority of the time. YMMV.
