Alpine climbing in Chile?
crazyjizzy replied to thin_air_aaron's topic in The rest of the US and International.
The world famous Lambone (Matt Lambert) formerly of this site, now at here went to SA last year. He may be of some help. -
What do people here know about sat phones? Is there a place in Seattle to rent them, a place where one may actually talk to a knowlegeable sales person?
-
Well, AlpineK: Say what you want about the Mormons, our friend Galen is a Mormon. ***(edit)*** not very open minded of me, huh? But fucking funny (double entendre, huh?) How about those catholics who would you want behind you?
-
I agree. I used to work alot in Utah, and S.W. Wyoming. The Mormon culture was pervasive in UT, but was not present in Kemmerer Wyoming, probably due to it's "boom" culture. Alot of the pipefitters and boilermakes were from Idaho Falls, and environs. Even in Utah,I never really noticed much pressure to convert or preach, maybe because we were "in the belly of the beast", or because I was fortunate to always be around people who treated choice as a adult decision. The biggest pain in the asses were former "Jack" Mormons who had regained "the way". I would not even think about Mormonism as a factor in deciding where to live. Maybe it is just me, I try to listen to others about there religion, wether it is Jewish, Christian, Muslen, Animist, etc, but I make clear I am in no way going to convert.

Schultzie: This is a real discussion regarding censorship and an inner clique. If all you can bring to the table is nagativity, then please shut up.
-
I disagree. He did not deserve it. PS. You don't piss me off.

PS For the record, I enjoy the post's of DFA, ScottP, and Dru's. I have spoken to ScottP, and found him a nice person, although he probably thought I was a little strange. I have bantered with Pope, Dwayner, and Ray Borbon. I would probably enjoy drinking with DFA and Dru. I think that Allison is a total idiot.

Or maybe Dwayner, and his ideas (?), just aren't so special that his continued delusional Luddite ramblings here are justified? Many of us find you unfunny and two-dimensional, but that's no reason to ban you. Take Dru for example: Seldom does one find a bigger waste of bandwidth, what with his adolescent focus on sexual innuendo, ill-fated, subtle-post-change attempts at humor and archival post-dredging, but after 3 to 4 times the post numbers of anyone else on this board, most of which are pure spew, he's still at it. I saw no legitimate reason for Dwayners banning other than somebody didn't like what he was saying, but hey, it's a privately owned board and the owners have the final say. That is exactly my point, that most of the stuff here is tripe. Dwayner didn't get booted off for pissing off Jon and Tim, he got booted off for pissing off the "Head" moderator. Very pissy and arbitrary if you ask me.
-
Lets get back to this, and why Dwayner ( and others) were banned. Some people were rude and rascist, and eventually found themselves banned from their own blog at ascensionist. Others caused too much trouble with the inner clique (AlpineK at ascensionist, Dwayner here) Some supposedly threatened others. Dwayner may be a broken record, but he was never rude, rascist, or had violent tendancies. The two main problems with Dwayner was that he espouced ideas that the "Head" moderator disagreed with. And that he had posts with lots of photos, and these took up lots of thread space, and this interfered with Catbirdseat's browsing. You know what? Brian could just choose to ignore Dwayner. You know what else? So could the "Head" moderator, after he got down off his high horse. This place, and it's ideas, just aren't so special that shutting down Dwayner is justified. It is mearly high-handed self-importantance on the part of others that got Dwayner booted.

Is sea level even sea level? I am not joking, this is a real question. Above the Mid Oceanic Ridges, due to the proximity of the mantle, and an attendant rise in gravity, geodacy and geophysics has shown that the level of the ocean is higher than what should be expected. This is because of localized/regionized increases in gravity pulls and piles up water.

How many people today know what a biner rap system is, much less know how to set one up?
-
Excellent advice, a person could do that at home, and never leave the comfort of their rat-hole. Why would anyone want to go to a gym and see hard-bodies and hotties?

Bring back Dwayner. Bring back the fun. Yes, bring back Dwayner So fucking what? What is so fucking important here that the Dwayner side-show bothers? Don is a little one-dimensional (not in real-life though), but is harmless. There is such a tendancy for people to feel that this place is important and serious, and Don detracts from this. It isn't, and he doesn't.

I have thought about this, and I think that I am wrong about several things. 1) One atmosphere is not 764mm Mg, but it is darn close. 2) Instead of metric displacement of Hg, atmospheric pressure could also be measured in Imperial units. Mr. Mo refered to this. I think that this would be roughly 30" Hg. 3) A "Bar" is defined (I think) as the displacement of Mercury (Hg) at "atmospheric sea-level conditions". This arbitrary length is then divided into 1/1000ths. Right now, Sea-Tac has a barometric pressure (corrected to MSL I assume) of 1017 mBars, meaning that it is 1.017 times greater that normal (good weather). Someone mentioned a pressure of 22.71. That would be in inches of Hg, and high altitude, or very bad weather.
-
I thought Dylan's answer was excellent. My points are: 1) "Absolute Barometric Pressure" is what you are reading right there, no matter what the elevation is. 2) If you know the elevation at your reading site, it can be extrapolated to sea level, for comparrison to other information. 3) If I remember correctly, at sea level, the "normal" pressure, averaged thru time for conditions, is one atmosphere or Bar, or 764mm of Hg. Variations of this are measured in thousandths (m).

If anyone knows Russ, could you let us know? Several of us would love to hear from him: Mark McKillop, Scott Joupi, Dan Lepeska, Doug Klewin, et. al.

These were some good “last words” , too bad it didn’t take! I really am not proposing a connect-four trail of colored dots, only brainstorming a better way to help get a blind mouse thru a maze to the cheese....for christ's fuking sake you people blow me away all the time. PERKINS, you don't have a clue what your talking about, do you? I would only accuse the FS person of rape if it was you. I have nothing against using the forest/enchantments for enjoyment by cityfolk, locals or even the US ARMY. I just think people make bad choices and this website is a place to voice it in the climbing realm. Like BUG did about my buddy being a loud mouth. (AND thats right it was my choice to fess up about my friend.) Like I did about the dumbfuking dolt who decided in the middle of the fukin summer to "tidy up some routes" at one of the most popular crags for Seattle folks...(Don't see anyone claiming that mistake yet). YOU mr P are never welocome in my house, as long as I live where I do or anywhere else for that matter. why don't you just fukin ban me you piss-ant. I am sure you want to and probably will propose it in the supersecret moderator forum! OFF, I am sorry my friend blew up, the tequila did not slow us down, we enjoyed a route got down to the lake before 11pm via headlamps and then got separated. When we started and how my gut felt had nothing to do with my friend being loud. My buddy does not hold back his feelings so he voiced it. Obviously, anyone telling someone unhelpful advice should rethink the stupid advice... Yeah good idea, tell a pissed off person unhelpful advice. MT M, Next time I will cut the dumb fuking clothesline down and set it next to your tent.... IT is the wilderness, not a laundry mat. Mr Mo, I Kick cairns down all the time...especially on obvious trails, not like the crosscountry trail on asgard. there are no cairns on the colchuck lake cattle trails. only pretty little signs that you need a roadmap to find sometimes. I am not suggesting flashing lights, neon signs or such. What I am saying is the trail around Colchuck is obviously not the easiest to follow, especially when tired late in the evening and it needs to be improved. Sitting down and waiting for daylight... we did at one point, discuss... but, why shiver in the woods when you can stumble around yelling obscenities to scare the bejeezus out of people who bitch about every god damn thing known to man. AND yes I bitch too, because like all you wankers I believe this is still a somewhat free country. And at that I bid all you people a farewell. This site is so unbelievably riteous I can not seriously offer any more beta. I am sure many of you will give a shout of joy... one less ranting asshole with an overopionated arrogant attitude, now we call can sing and be peaceful little cascadeclimbers. Have fun, back questionable pro/raps up, watch out for falling rocks and NO MORE BOLTS NEXT TO CRACKS!!!!!!!!!!!! How about these? There has been too much BS bein' tossed around in the last few months. This site sucks, you're a bunch of vultures. Later.

Why would you? It was obvious when you said that you were flying in. You were just assuming a third grade level of reading comprehension. Thanksgiving is pretty notorious for shitty weaather, but good luck, and have fun.

I checked it out from the KCLS, and thought it was a basic book, probably good for a person just becoming interested in digital photography. So there.

Face it Kurt, you and your father are evil Devil worshipers. You want to shape the Mountaineers into a strange cult, obsessed with wearing shorts over long-johns. Explain your involvment with that group of sickies who hung dead pigs on popular sport climbs years ago. What ever happened to those wackos? They must be in prison, why aren't you? You would enjoy all the sex. -

He should be there. Aw, the evil Mr. FF. I wonder what wicked deeds he has been up to? I have never trusted that S.O.B. ever since Rolf filled me in on how much of a bad man FF was. I also remember that cad trying to wake me up a 5am, while I was asleep, after drinking to the wee hours. FF is truly the anti-christ, for god's sake, Kurt's middle name is 666.
