Their cabin was empty, and the sign in disrepair. Did they go out of buisness?

Climb: Goat Creek Wall-Prime Rib Date of Climb: 10/9/2005 Trip Report: My pal Lenny and I climbed this route on sunday. Not bad, but.... On one pitch there were eight bolts protecting a 50' fourth class slab with a 5.7 mantle in the middle, after which another bolt protects a slab that I walked up. I bypassed seven of the eight bolts. AlpineK tells me that he understands that the upper bolt is a "guide" bolts, to mark the route. What give? Sad and pathetic.

Anthony Qamar, the Washington State siesmologist, was killed in a car crash tuesday, along with UPS geologist Daniel Johnson. Tony Qamar was a well known climber who's photo adorned the cover of "Climbing in North America".

I tried the Zodiac in December of '81, and it was roasting! I have also seen it snow in October, and rain one inch per day for close to a week in September. So the answer is....who knows. But you could get some fine south facing climbing.

Can the wide "traverse" near the top be protected with wide gear? That is where I remember the majority of the bolts being. The top bolt of Rollercoaster is kind of tired and old.

I would get the book "Himalyan Alpine style", or "The trekking peaks of Nepal" by Bill O'Connor. The trekking peaks are fine objectives.

Who makes Ridgid? Not the Ridge Pipe Tools Company! They have whored out their name to Home Depot for $$$$. Right now, I believe that HD has it's second manufacturer building tools under the HD/ Ridgid moniker.

How could anyone think that of r? Maybe you are an asshole? -
It has been suggested that some sort of remembrance service for John here in Washington would be nice. Thoughts and ideas? Please leave ideas here, or PM's Sincerely Mark McKillop

Try finding "Wilderness Search and Rescue" by Tim Setnicka, or"river Rescue" by Bechdel and Ray. Both have good sections on rivers. Belays should be well thought out, because a rope has a huge potential to make things more dangerous.

Lesley: I too am saddened by the death of your father. He was a good friend of mine, and we climbed often in the 80's. I am right now going to call my good friend Randy Stout, who was a room-mate of your father in 1980, in the basement of a sororiety! It is saddly ironic that I just last week recycled an article from the Seattle Times, January 1985, about your dad and Mark Twight ice climbing in the Icicle Canyon in December, 1984. I wish I had saved it, so I could have sent it to you. I have a ton of photos of John, ad would be happy to share. Sincerely Mark McKillop

I climbed with him once, in January of 1978. I wouldn't say he was a soloist. He was friends of Barry Brown, who married Linda Givler. I believe he fell in September of 1978 while climbing the Lava Glacier Headwall.

It is sad that this is really all about Ben and Mattp. Instead of getting mad and screaming, yelling, and calling names, Mattp has to resort to this mundane BS th wear Ben (and all of us) into submission. Don't you ever get tired of talking stupid-ass shit to death? What difference does it make? Maybe people want to remain anonymous because they feel that many of the people here are twisted sick fuckers, who only became lawyers or tree surgeons thru correspondancce school while in prison. While I do not know the personnel history of some of the major players here, that is a posibility. Then when Dru brings up the moderators, some people feel the need to attack poor Dru. The fact is that Dru pointed out the hypocracy of your argument viv a vis the moderators. Also, don't you have an unlisted home phone number? Why don't you list that, your social security number, and your home address under your avatar? It is because transparency is not black and white, but gradational.

Blah, blah, blah. Stupid legalese minutiae. most people know who I am, as well as Pope, Dwayner, PP, Rumr, Archenemy, Capt. Caveman, etc., etc., etc. You don't have to be a rocket scientist. You were just looking for a reason to bust Ben's chops - deservedly so given the swipes he took at you on his way out. Now drop it.

What?...in English And Ben, your new avatar took absolutely no time for myself, Rolf, Kurt, or Rudy to figure out, like 5 seconds!

Semore, are you a moron? I clearly stated that I was unsure whether it was the correct decision or not. And the super flu was mearly a for-instance. Learn to read, and quit telling me that I condoned the dropping of the atom bomb, I was trying to elucidate some of the many questions that Truman, Marshall, etc had to grapple with.

I think that this arguement will rage (hopefully) for another six hundred years. I believe that the answer is difficult to decipher 1) Did we do it to lessen the spoils of war to the Soviets? In reality, we had been trying to get the Soviets into the war since 1942, but by that point there was a concern that the Red Army would gobble up lots of eastern Asia like it had eastern Europe. 2) Could we have starved them out by a Naval Blockade? Probably, but would have more civilians died? 3) Were the Japanese putting out surrender feelers? Yes, through the Swiss. And those in Washington were getting prepared to accept them. The role of the Emperor was of vital importance to the Japanese, he was almost a God King, and they wanted his safety and dignity preserved. Washington was prepared to accept these terms, because a fight to the death appeared to be the alternative. 4) When would have the Invasion have taken place? 1946. And there was true fear that the Japanese could have invented some specialized or "super" weapons in the intereme. What if they developed a "A" or "H" bomb? Or a superflu? And put it on a sub? Therer were many reasons to end the war quickly; political, geo-political, humanitarian, and militarian. I don't know if it was the right decision, but I do think that Truman was a straight forward person, and did what he thought was best to end the war. I do not think that Truman wanted to show the Russians, or to punish the Japanese, but that is not to say that those who helped him form his decision did not hold those ideas.

Stefan; you are a freak. In the Seattle Times last week, I saw a photo where the border consists of a grassy median with houses on either side. The BP has lots to do, is only doing it so-so, and is in no position to come down on Bear Mountain bound climbers. I propose that Stefan is quashed.
