I think that this arguement will rage (hopefully) for another six hundred years. I believe that the answer is difficult to decipher 1) Did we do it to lessen the spoils of war to the Soviets? In reality, we had been trying to get the Soviets into the war since 1942, but by that point there was a concern that the Red Army would gobble up lots of eastern Asia like it had eastern Europe. 2) Could we have starved them out by a Naval Blockade? Probably, but would have more civilians died? 3) Were the Japanese putting out surrender feelers? Yes, through the Swiss. And those in Washington were getting prepared to accept them. The role of the Emperor was of vital importance to the Japanese, he was almost a God King, and they wanted his safety and dignity preserved. Washington was prepared to accept these terms, because a fight to the death appeared to be the alternative. 4) When would have the Invasion have taken place? 1946. And there was true fear that the Japanese could have invented some specialized or "super" weapons in the intereme. What if they developed a "A" or "H" bomb? Or a superflu? And put it on a sub? Therer were many reasons to end the war quickly; political, geo-political, humanitarian, and militarian. I don't know if it was the right decision, but I do think that Truman was a straight forward person, and did what he thought was best to end the war. I do not think that Truman wanted to show the Russians, or to punish the Japanese, but that is not to say that those who helped him form his decision did not hold those ideas.

Stefan; you are a freak. In the Seattle Times last week, I saw a photo where the border consists of a grassy median with houses on either side. The BP has lots to do, is only doing it so-so, and is in no position to come down on Bear Mountain bound climbers. I propose that Stefan is quashed.

That was an Al Jazerra link. Pardon me, but I will give it more credance when I see it reported by Reuters, AP, or UPI.

My buddy Lenny was in the Bugs last week, and a slung block being used for a rappel in the McTech area pulled, resulting in the death of a climber from Chicago.

I will read my geologic map to the area.

Granodiorite is lumped by many petrologists as "granite". Grain size is independent of mineralogy. Brittleness is dependant on a whole range of factors, as are crack ststems. As a first order assumption, one couls assume that the dioritic rock are probably older, and as such were affected by the emplacement of the younger acidic rocks in such a way to cause more jointing and incipient cracks. These will preclude the development of larger/longer crack systems. This is only an easy model.

Wolverine, and I would hang out in the forest with my friends the monkey, and the big dumb slow witted tree bear. Then the monkey and I would drink a shit pot of beer, and pick a fight with the moose.

The latest geologic map which I have (Tabor and others, 2002)which only covers to the border, shows intrusive rocks of the Chilliwack Batholith. That said, Beckey mentions dioritic rocks. Need to know more?

Goddamnit! Those weren't Roberts, those were mine! It wasn't "epic" we got back to camp at 2:00am, just like everybody else. I didn't want to die, so AlpineK and I burned up some old cams. For fucks sake, I have been climbing for thirty years, and got a lot of older than shit gear.

How is the parking situation? Rolf isn't too good on figuring that out.

Just what the fuk in spray has value? Klenke? Lions? Feels good to be rude? Hangovers? Normally, if something is boring or of no redeming value, it just fades away. It sure seems like you are proactive only against asc. Wussy.

Royal Columns: Anchor on Little Known Wonder
crazyjizzy replied to catbirdseat's topic in Central/Eastern Washington
Then go to the store and do it. Do you want people to do it for you? What is wrong with extending them with webbing? And then rap from another anchor. -
As well as "Group therapy at Ascensionist."

Minx: sadly, it is absolutely true. It has happened to me at least three times. Do not call me a liar.

Who: A cc moderator who wanted a more free form forum Layout: self explanatory Why is it deserted: A lot of fighting, and no real attempt to deal with dissenting viewpoints, although RuMR and AlpineFox do an excellent job of representing the Liberal view point. Many of the conservatives there mearly want a circle jerk. Trask is a anomouly. He is a old-school republican, of the Dan Evans ilk, and seems tired of the Bushites. I like Trask. Yes, it is the cc elephants graveyard. This place is really no better, but it does have alot more climbing content. Unfortunately, this thread may get pulled. Some moderator here hates ALL mention of asc. and has pulled multiple threads in which asc. is mentioned. Pathetic.

There is a restuarant at the hotel just north of the store, at the (?) Mazama Country Inn

We did some nailing. Some KB's, quite a few LA's, some babes. A few heads, no(?) rurps. There was some tied off pins. Nuts to 4". I would say A3. Harder than Uncle Bens, cleaner and easier than Wrist Twister, lots easier than Humpty Dumpty.

After a failure on the Pan, did it in '94 with Doug Klewin. I remember pitch 2 being long, and rather convoluted, with tension and lots of traverses. Pitch 3 was non-memorable. The long aid pitch #4 was really cool, lots of good nailing. Doug fell on the last pitch, #5. After that I don't remember the little sixth pitch as shown in McLane's book.
