My buddy Lenny was in the Bugs last week, and a slung block being used for a rappel in the McTech area pulled, resulting in the death of a climber from Chicago.

I will read my geologic map to the area.

Granodiorite is lumped by many petrologists as "granite". Grain size is independent of mineralogy. Brittleness is dependant on a whole range of factors, as are crack ststems. As a first order assumption, one couls assume that the dioritic rock are probably older, and as such were affected by the emplacement of the younger acidic rocks in such a way to cause more jointing and incipient cracks. These will preclude the development of larger/longer crack systems. This is only an easy model.

We did some nailing. Some KB's, quite a few LA's, some babes. A few heads, no(?) rurps. There was some tied off pins. Nuts to 4". I would say A3. Harder than Uncle Bens, cleaner and easier than Wrist Twister, lots easier than Humpty Dumpty.

After a failure on the Pan, did it in '94 with Doug Klewin. I remember pitch 2 being long, and rather convoluted, with tension and lots of traverses. Pitch 3 was non-memorable. The long aid pitch #4 was really cool, lots of good nailing. Doug fell on the last pitch, #5. After that I don't remember the little sixth pitch as shown in McLane's book.
