Goggle lens color for mountaineering/snowboarding
cj001f replied to LuckyMike's topic in The Gear Critic
There is no color that is good for both bright light and whiteouts. Optimize for both - the yellow or bluish smith sensors are cool for whiteouts. -
some of us have gone mobile fairweather sickie

You are going to show us pictures of you at the Pride parade?
-
I'm going to work tomorrow instead, but the child of spray will show on Saturday evening.

I see my point was entirely over your lizard brain. Everytime some new bit of rescue tech, or even tech that could be used for a rescue like a cellphone, comes along some feeble minded soul bitches about it and claims some induced rescue effect. To date I've never seen any study substantiate this effect.

How many people are going to die because of that new pair of running shoes? Going out, getting hit by cars, killing themselves all because those shoes let them push themselves

Since the cams are being made by locals, supervised by locals and maybe 1-10 actual factual 'mericuns are involved, is it fair to say you don't know shit? and yeah, if they are good enough to manage and setup a factory overseas they'd be a loser to stick with BD......
-
why not go with a PLB instead?
-
Spend the $20 and ship it off to Liberty Mountain. They'll also do a check to make sure it's in full running order, which is worth a few $$. I do wish more shops would perform the service, shipping out your beacon is a PIA

Go with the STS unless you use one pair of skis in reasonably similar conditions all year. Clipfix require too much fiddling with the skin length to stay fixed if skins stretch/etc.

Tristar - it's a deathspiral for your division but nobody will figure it out.

Junior, if you keep asking stupid questions I'll launch a preemptive attack.

Only a management dipshit or "star" employee who asn't figured out how worthless he really is would say shit like that.

It'd be cool if they could have someone produce a coherent statement with coherent reasoning. If having BD cams and protection made in the USA was good, as their ad copy stated, why is China better? As it stands now that flag waving bit looks more than a tad cynical given the size and scope of the rampup in their Chinese operations, as does the made in SLC by real climbers/skiers/bros crap.
-
Perhaps - there's also a difference between personal conversations and public conversations and the information content that should be contained.
-
I asked you for advice when I foolishly thought you might know something
-
another turd from avitripp - you might want to learn how to spell substantial before you work up to insubstantial
-
So does BD pay you to be a press agent? If moving to China makes bad press, maybe they should have considered that and the reasons (some valid) why moving to China makes for bad press

Leave JFK at night at you can be in Chamonix by midday.

Whats the penalty? Deportation to the lEast Coast? Internment in the Bellevue forced labor camp?

It's probably heard as often as "I love 4wd" on I-90 heading to Snoqualmie. Leisure activities are fashion. I'm guilty too - I've a mass of stuff that can climb harder, ski better, and take better photos than I will ever be able too because those things made the most economic sense at the time.
-
Ummm...yaaahh....I carry around those double axle cams for their good looks....same thing with that highly breathable single wall tent.... well, you epitomize the suburbanite fashion climber ... Never conceived of an excess of functionality being a fashion statement? Check out the Hummers at Bellevue Square some time.

Just a guess they are doing the standard overseas rampup of move assembly then migrate supply chain. There's nothing that special about springs or finishing that necessitates those processes being done in the US. But thats.... just a guess. JayB- If quality standards are held, sure. The problem with overseas manufacturing is maintaining those standards. It's alot harder to manage someone half a world away then in the next building....which has tripped up at least one cam company and more than one ski company. If they can make that change, kudos, it's tripped up more than one multinational. Realistically the money saved just gets spit out to owners and investors. I could give 2 shits about R&D in the outdoor sports industry it's mostly fashion driven. As such a much more succinct statement would be "China is the manufacturing nation of the future for disposable consumer goods. Climbing gear is a disposable consumer good. Deal with it" Maybe I should just drink some more marketing KoolAid

Wow, my colon hasn't seen that much sunshine since Mark came to visit. So your supply chain is currently unchanged. Forgive me for wondering how long you'll bother with the inefficencies of shipping low level, low cost components across the ocean. twice. That is, unless you need some supply ineffeciencies to rationalize for why your cams still sell for $70 a pop retail.
