I've been to the base of the NF in the mid 80's. We walked around the east side of berg lake and scrambled up the moraine on the east side of the Berg glacier. We stayed on scree and rock until we reached about 2/3 of the elevation to the base of the NF. We then climbed a ramp to our high camp. A friend of mine just got back from up there and it's snowy and cold.

(sorry, no turntables for scratchin') Ya know Greg I bet most of the music you like has roots in, "black," music. I've never lived in the gheto, but I do like people who can express themselves in an amusing and obnoxious way. NWA is pretty dam good at that. Think of them as super spray masters. I'm sure you don't get it. [ 08-29-2002, 05:13 PM: Message edited by: AlpineK ]

No cougars, but during one cocktail hour we watched 3 climbers fall and slide down a snow slope below Spider/Formidable col. Poor suckers

Last week some friends and I did the Ptarmigan Traverse in 6 days. We smoked a buch of pot, drank a bunch of booze, and I remember some mushrooms too. we climbed a few peaks too. Scot'corplogo would have flipped right the fuck out, but we had a great time. 6 days is way more fun than 2 sucker.

At least that's the word on the street from people who know.

I think Eric, Mtn Goat, and some of you others are way off on this whole issue. Let me help you out. While protesters may be stinky hippies that you wouldn't want hanging around your pad. Protests, especially violent protests make good TV. And what's good for TV is good for corporate America.

I should add we climbed both routes on the Old Settler from an alpine sit start.

TR: Yellow Brick Road - Marble Canyon
AlpineK replied to dberdinka's topic in British Columbia/Canada
I went up to Marble Canyon back a few weeks ago. We were going to climb, but the battery in my truck exploded. We ended up walking to a pay phone and waiting for the tow truck driver instead of climbing. -
Wow that's trippy. Maybe if there's some new snow on Nov 10th I'll head up to Muir. I haven't been there since last November.

A lot of the libertarian views I hear are simple and attractive. We all should be free to do whatever we want. Reality isn't quite so simple. There are a lot of things that aren't economic for individuals or companies to do yet they serve everyone's interest. Also if you do everything you want chances are your going to be fucking with someone elses life. Anyway a couple observations Mtn Goats posts are way to long. Sure you've got a lot to say, but I for one refuse to read such long posts. Also who is this geek the Greek guy. I know real Greeks and they all think you're one big malaka.

The forests in the US are way too thick. How did they get that way? Both Democrat and Republican administrations spent a bunch of money to put out fires. So the question is how do we correct the mistakes of the past. Thinning works. The problem is you can't do anything but chip up all the debris from thinning. Chips aren't worth very much; I give mine away for free. Logs can be worth something; and most companies like to try and make money. It isn't too shocking that logging companies would want to cut some nice big trees along with all the crap. Another approach is to stop fighting fires unless they are likely to burn peoples houses. You don't have to pay to start fires; hell lots of people like to start fires for free. I am so down with burning. Burn, burn, burn!

I hate most modern republicans due to their anti-environmental agenda. Whatever happened to good republicans like Dan Evans? However when it comes to foreign policy quite often having someone like Ronald Regan is a good thing. I agree with you Matt when you say our economic power put those Ruskies down, but I think you can’t discount the ability to instigate others to fight them. The USSR spent a lot of money and manpower on Afghanistan. I should point out that RR, Jimmy Carter, Old Bush, and Clinton all did a bad job and or underestimated Muslim fundamentalists. Anyway I don’t have a huge problem with calling the freaky Muslims, “towel heads,” as long as you can respect the Muslims that are more normal.
