Every few years I have to update my industrial first aid certificate. The class is always taught by a firefighter, and one of the subjects that always comes up is how people involved with accidents or rescues deal with the mental stress it puts on them. One way that a couple different instructors pointed out is to make jokes and crass comments about the accident/victim. It's not that they don't care it's just that it is a way of dealing with seeing some fucked up shit on a regular basis. Climbers are in this boat too. I'm sure accident reports remind people that something similar could happen to them, and whether conciously or subconciously they need to deal with it. Sure it's a public forum, so we need to have some respect to the victim/family. I just figure that for every accident there needs to be two threads one respectful one on the climbers board and the other one in spray.

If you hike up to Goose Egg and find somebody ahead of you on your chosen route run away or at least pick another route far from them.

Ok let me tell you what I really think. Anyone who thinks there's a mounties lodge in the Icicle is a dumbfuck The mounties are the epic masters. I was in the mounties but I quit them a long time ago. My first expeience climb was with a leader who couldn't climb 5.2 (seriously) and refused to give up the lead. We spent an extra night out because of that idiot. My main climbing partner when I was starting out took the mounties class and on an experience climb on Adams they lost 1 tent and spent an extra night out. Just last year I helped rescue some mountie dude who fell on a 5.4 at the Tieton. I've heard thousands of other mountie epics. Rudy's comments earlier in this thread are spot on. The idea that someone who's been through the basic course the year before instructing new climbers is fucking stupid. The mounties have a large role in climbing history around here, but they hopefully have next to no role in the future of NW climbing. Death to the uber bureaucratic climbing club.

Larry, or should I say Erik. I can't speak for others, but I can say this. I've come very close to killing myself 3 times over the years in climbing accidents. Thankfully I didn't, and I haven't had a real close call in years. All 3 times I made decisions that were stupid and I payed the price. I still have vivid memories of all the scenarios. There was no internet back when I was doing stuff like that, and thankfully my friends didn't hack me to pieces with a monday morning quarterback routine. I can tell you this I am my own worst critic; I still stop and think every so often, "how could I have been so fucking stupid." I can't change the past and neither can Andrew, so why don't you lighten up. Anyway Andrew or Andy; way to not get dead.

I'll be there with one other Saturday evening unless it's raining at Index on Saturday. We may check out the party. On Sunday we're going somewhere where you have to hike a bunch. Sorry I wont spray about camping in a public forum.

Don't be too sure. We did some arial bombing of our gear when we went into the Cirque of the Towers. We ended up with a lot of dented cans.
