Alex Shigo dies. Not that that many of you would know him, but its kind of a big deal for arboriculture "Dr. Shigo’s work in Arbor Care and the development of the CODIT model have completely changed the industry. In his recent retirement, he had freely given of his time to students and educators to expand the knowledge of all of the participants. He will be missed by all who work in biology and arbor care."

I don't have any names for you from PDX, but you can do a search for the PNW-ISA where you'll find a whole list of people. You'll have to narrow it down to Oregon, but you can find a whole list of people who could help you. I know of one huge company, General Tree, but you should hire a smaller local tree service.

Gary Trip reports always have been a mixed bag. Sometimes you'll get a route guide to your next climb, other times all you get is a report that says something like, "we're bad ass and we climbed this rad route route but you didn't because you suck. Your best bet is to take the whole thing with a grain of salt. In any case read a report that you want to and decide for yourself or just ignore the report because you hate the writer. Sometimes you'll get good information; other times you'll either get bullsit or a funny story.

I'm not sure I really follow Pope. Lets say you're out climbing and you see a yummy sandwich on route. Why wouldn't you climb the route? It would be the smart thing to do if you forgot your lunch and especially if you were a broke student.

Last years site was just fine. I'm pretty sure I'll be at this next one, probably only to hike, but it'll be fun

I had a guy in the hospital bed next to mine ask me if I would give him my shoes. I told him that they sold shoes at the minimart just down the street. I told him if he walked out the door I'd wish him well, but he was on his own. He even wanted bus fare

Hey everybody. I'm out of Harborview for the evening. I've got some hand surgery set up for tomorrow. There are still some doctor visits for me for a bit, but I'll eventually get out and get back to tree work and climbing. I know a bunch of arborist friends came by the hospital when I first got brought in. It's nice to know I've got a bunch of friends in the same business. I also know that a bunch of other friends came by to visit. Mark,Kelly and Archenemy it was nice to see you. I hear Porter came by too Anyway it's going to take a bit more work to get back up to speed working and climbing, but it will happen Until then get out there and climb something.

I'm saying I'll go to the Owl and Thistle and drink beer with other climbers who aren't climbing...or pimpin da hoes all day at Index.

The pizza place is on HWY 20 just west of where you turn into the old downtown in a strip mall on the S side of the road.

Gary, take a deep breath and try and relax. Yes, we are all laughing at you, but it'll all be ok eventually. Now take another breath and try not to hyperventilate...that's it slow and easy.

Anyway the Owl and Thistle is just fine by me... I know I won't be hanging with all the hot burley chicks cranking the rads at Index, but I'm weak and pathetic, so I really shouldn't expect too much. I need a beer
