As a moderator I'm going to start making demands to the other moderator crew that, "John Frieh," be forced to change his name back to Nolse (or whatever it was).

If you want to see some fast folks doing this you need to go to Avery Park in Corvallis, OR on 9/16/07. The event is the PNW ISA Chapter Tree Climbing Championship. The competition is open to members from WA, OR, ID, BC, AK and the Yukon There are 5 events, but one of the best speed events is the footlock competition. In this event you climb up a doubled rope 50' off the deck to ring a bell. Fast climbers do this in 19 seconds and they are protected but they don't use jugs. I'll be there to attend a 4 day conference and to watch a bit of the event. The winner of the tree climbing competition gets to represent the PNW at the International Championship. From the PNW-ISA site: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm • Chapter Tree Climbing Championships - Avery Park in Corvallis, just a few blocks away from the OSU Conference Center, will be the site of the annual PNW Chapter Tree Climbing Championships. Come watch as climbers compete for the chance to represent the Chapter at the 2008 International competition.

I agree. I made a note of it, but I don't run the yard sale. I guess I'll ban the poster. Edit: Somebody beat me to that.

Dru I've climbed with both you and Mark. I'm sorry to tell you the news, but Mark would clean your clock in any kind of a debate you chose to get into with him. Well you might win at an intardnet argument but that doesn't count.

Between Athabasca and Andromeda I've done 6 routes. That place rules. The Hourglass is really good. I'm afraid all my memories are from the 80s, so I can't help you with current conditions. The pictures posted do make it look thinner than it used to be.

[TR] North Cascades - Vesper and the bachelor 9/1/2007
AlpineK replied to AlpineK's topic in North Cascades
We could have easily sent the scramble up route on the ridge, but we were looking for the technical route. There weren't any vertical tree lines on the North side. -
I just found some good looking NA beer at Ballard Market today. Maybe I'll bring some unless CC springs for a NA keg.

Roadking cared enough to get a personal email addy of roadking3322 or something like that. I could have banned him right then and there, but I still didn't care enough to take him out. I did care enough to click on the control panel

No Feck: what you said was " Time to fess up and out em. Even though I am a mod and could figure it out if I really wanted to I mostly don't give a shit about the latest one post wonder.
-
Like I said earlier Roadking is a regular poster under a different name. He just registered his current name for a quickie

It's hardly out of the ordinary to see a single post from a new user who in fact posts on a regular basis under a much more active user name. Whoever posted as Roadking needs to work on his style for their next one shot avatar.

human powered approaches vs heli, planes, skidoos
AlpineK replied to dirtbagathlete's topic in Climber's Board
It's always good to see trolls that can keep their posts active and not instantly shipped to Spray. Or even worse banned. -
Start shopping early for good Christmas cards

human powered approaches vs heli, planes, skidoos
AlpineK replied to dirtbagathlete's topic in Climber's Board
This whole discussion has gotten me totally psyched to hop on a heli in Pemberton next spring. -

Trip: North Cascades - Vesper and the bachelor Date: 9/1/2007 Trip Report: A good friend of mine is going to get married in a couple weeks, and he wanted to do a couple day backpack trip into a nice area where folks could drink beer ( and other stuff ) and some of the group could go climbing. There was a total of between 20 and 30 people on this trip and about 4 poodles. Keep in mind this was mostly a party, but we did make an attempt to do a climb while we were there. Of the large group there were 4 real climbers and a number of folks doing some scrambling in the area. 1 mailman and 2 tree guys one of whom is the bachelor Dave the dogs and the bbq The scramble to the north side went pretty smoothly and we got some nice views. The north side of Vesper Since after my mishap last year I've been trying to take it easy, and so I went up there figuring I'd be following and not leading. 2 of our group had been here before, so I left the route finding to them. As it turns out we got on the face a little too early and what was suppose to be a 5.5 turned rapidly into a 5.5d A little higher on the route our only way up got significantly harder than 5.5d and we decided that we were up there to party and not do a rad FA. To add to that we found a number of rap anchors where others had bailed off that route. We rapped back to the glacier and hiked back to the notch and then down to the party. A small sample of the fun. Don't get to worked up about the mess. We packed out everything we packed in. Under normal conditions I wouldn't recommend using these tactics to climb, but given that our friend is soon to be married it seemed just fine to me and a much better way to celebrate than going to the strip club. Gear Notes: Standard rock gear. Crampons are nice too. Approach Notes: The trail in is an above average hike. The glacier on the north side is pretty broken up and there is a difficult moat to cross.

I'd just add that as a teen and part of a Mounties group headed to the west ridge of Prusik we started up the Snow Creek trail. Just after crossing the Icicle we ran into a family that had started the hike 20 min earlier with their dog. The father and mother were crying asking where the tunnel went and the kids were in tears. The leader of our group didn't want to tell them what most likely happened, so he told them to talk to the Leavenworth water district.
