    Hurricane Gustav

Random unplanned events always hurt the party in charge no matter if it's their fault or not. This new storm sounds like it could be pretty darn bad.

    McCain's VP

I never really bothered to pay much attention to politics in AK, so there's a lot of unknown in her. On first impression what I see is: Good Points: Clearly better than Dan Quayle, UI graduate. Bad Points Anti abortion, In love with solving energy problems by drilling more oil. The whole beauty queen thing is funny, but it isn't a + or - In the bigger picture I ain't voting for Bush #3.
  3. It's going to be time to rip it up soon brah

    McCain's VP

She graduated from the University of Idaho. Other than that I need to read some more about her.

    McCain's VP

Yeah, maybe he could have worn his tarzan outfit and sang wang tang sweet poontang at the convention. Now you're thinking that would be the best convention ever.

    McCain's VP

Ted has a lot of experience at public speaking.

    McCain's VP

I think Ted Nugent would be a better pick. He's pro gun and from the center of the country. Alaska is a cool place, but they don't have a lot of voters.

    The next Republican VP

    Obama's Speech

Minnesota really will be the land of 10,000 hot tubs when global warming gets stronger. That may be a good marketing campaign for future use.
  10. A snowmobile sure would be a nice way to deal with the bullshit logging roads on Adams(unless you're into that kind of thing).

    Obama's Speech

Given current odds that I've seen, making statements about who will win the election a lot like betting on heads or tails. There is still a couple months to go.

The next Republican Vice President Terrible Ted
  14. I've had some weird issues like that recently. I deleted cookies and things are better now.
  15. Right on Eisenhower looks cool. I did the complete Brewer Buttress on Castle a long time ago. I recommend it. We may have gotten a FA when we were off route on the lower buttress. It was some rad 5.10 stuff. Mt Louise is another good one. The Kane Route is fun, and there are a few other good looking routes there too. I think we saw a wolf when we descended to the car at the end of the day. Nice pictures.
  16. I missed this thread too. Lack of internet yesterday (either or ) Happy birthday Mel! I've been at two of the crucial features in the Shining. Mt Hood lodge of course, and the big old hotel where they filmed most of the interior scenes in Estes Park. That place is a cool building, and it's only 5 minutes from Lumpy Ridge I did read the Stand while living in Boulder. That was good, but I think I need to hang out in Las Vegas and reread it.

Right on, but I like the classic version vK8xoOLCBR4
  18. I listened to it. She seemed to do a good job urging her followers to back Barack.
  19. Multitasking as in doing a shitty job at 10 things as opposed to a good job at one or two.
  20. As the owner of a small business I find some of the right wingers here laughable. Small businesses don't always make tons of money. In my case I was providing income for myself and one or two employees. Paying my own health insurance was a stretch, but thank god I did since right now I'd be in debt for a half mil easy. I provided all I could for my employees. I covered 100% of their L&I, but they were still fucked for off the job injuries or health problems. I know what they made, and it was a fair wage given their skill level. I looked into a company health plan, but having a very small number of employees made insurance costs both high and prohibitive for me to provide. Employees were making money, so no medicade, but they were doing good to pay for food, rent, and transportation. Health insurance was well beyond them. What I hear from some folks here is the senerio where people go to a doctor or hospital, on admission they have no insurance and no medicade. The doctor then kicks them in the ass and tells them to go die on the street. I don't think people should expect unlimited care, but there needs to be a minimum level everybody should get. Medicade may help some, but there are a lot of people out there working and making money that get nothing.
  21. Nice! I've rapped down part of the direct East Ridge and the climbing looked nice, perhaps even better than the West Ridge. I'm really psyched to see the new snow.
  22. Classic photo of Canadian Rockies limestone. A friend and I spent about 4 days in at that hut waiting for the weather to break back a long time ago. It never did. The hike in from the road head is a long one. A mountain bike in would be an excellent idea.
  23. For years as an employer I've paid into L&I. It benefited employees, who had no insurance, that I could at least cover work related accidents. It was the law, the right thing to do, and it didn't cost that much.
  24. What Fairweather doesn't want to acknowledge is that uninsured people end up costing everybody money. All of us are going to need medical care a few times in our life. Also it's a benefit to the US as a nation to keep everybody to a reasonable amount of health. A benefit to the economy and our national security. It's a national need, but it costs money to provide. If everybody pitches in based on their ability then we will improve our country. It's very similar to citizens pitching in as a group for a military. Sure, things with any national system will not be perfect. Just look at the mess in Iraq for an example.
