    Old sayings

I'd walk through a minefield with snowshoes on just to eat the corn out of her turds. Stand me in a creek and make me eat gracy! (I have no idea what the hell this means) Its a damn fool that doesnt heed the second kick of a mule.
  4. Doubt you'll need snowshoes. Skis would be fun. Pickets might be unnecessary but I'd take two just in case.
  5. Clip-ons suck and fitovers. .. 'nough said. Contacts.

I'd like a HARDCOPY of Alpinist 0 if someone wants to part with it. PM me.
  7. Niacin dosing helps increase circulation as well. I've used it with success in preparation for climbs in Alaska and Ecuador. I don't recall the actual dosage anymore but it involves taking Niacin on an empty stomach every day then just before heading into the cold environment, you take a large dose. Its a weird feeling. All the capillaries in your extremeties will dilate rapidly and you'll get a little red in the face but it only lasts a short time. This is based on my own personal experience and research from the web. I advise anyone thinking of doing this to do their own research.

  11. My wife is slovak and I have traveled back and forth between Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republics many times (as recently as Christmas). The only animosity I witness is the jealousy of Slovaks over the advanced nature of the Czech economy. Not many people in either Czech or Slovak Republics own guns at all. Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia are different stories altogether although when I was there (last year) I didn't witness any violence and they are trying to put all that behind them. It was ethnic violence though and not a fight over human rights or liberties.
  12. Thanks for the link Greg. I'll check it out. What I'm trying to say with my comment re the military is that its awfully easy to sit behind the comfort of your keyboard and spray about being patriotic and shit when your ass isn't at risk. I'm not abdicating my own personal responsbility to protect my family and myself to the government but rather see the government as the first line of defense in enforcing laws--otherwise why even live in the US? If you want to own guns thats wonderful and I see no problem with that from my perspective. Its just a pet peeve of mine to see someone spewing patriotic metaphors but not having the balls to serve their country. You talk about defending liberty, and I would submit that the ultimate expression of that ideal is to serve your country in the military.
  13. Citations please? Not that I disagree, because I don't, but I'd be interested in reading these cases. Seems to me though that someone so ardently in favor of protecting the liberties of american citizens would be willing to actually put his ass on the line, money where his mouth is so to speak, and join the military. Until then its just double-speak for wanting to play with bang-bangs.
  14. Join the military.

  16. The chances of reviving someone with CPR who has coded are very slim. All you are doing is keeping oxygenated blood moving to the vital organs until more advanced life-saving measures can be administered. Thats not to say that its a waste of time or effort but something you should consider when deciding whether its appropriate or not. You and your buddy are skiing Goat Rocks when he slams into a tree and suffers massive head trauma and has stopped breathing. Is CPR appropriate in this scenario? Its just you and him miles from anywhere. Another thing to keep in mind in addition to What Jon said about potential disease transmittal is the chance of injuring the person further by administering CPR. A friend of mine witnessed a child being hit by a car in a residential neighborhood. The kid had stopped breathing and there was no pulse so my buddy started CPR. The kid survived and was a paraplegic. The parents sued my friends alleging that he compromised the kids spinal cord. Although protected by good samaritan laws, it was a pain in the ass.

Yeah--why wasn't Bernard Eggers or Andrew Fastow or Jeffrey Skilling prosecuted for their insider trading and/or corporate malfeasance? Oh yeah, they are.
