WHy stop at just one?

I have a G2 and love it--aside from it being heavy and bulky. You can't go wrong with Canon.

My VW Passat TDI gets 45mpg on the highway and I can sleep comfortably in the back. With chains on it I have been able to go anywhere I wanted to go so far. There's a place for SUVs and if it looks like we're going there we take one.

I bet Mattp is referring to the upper portion of the SW spur leading to the false summit. I'll bet the angle of that is better than 40 degrees. The spur leading to the lunch counter is pretty mellow, though you won't be skiing much of that anymore this year. I've skied the SW chutes and by any measure I'm a pretty mediocre skier at best. The corn harvest this weekend was OUTSTANDING! SW chutes was in excellent condition. I recommend getting an early start and bring light skis (you are going to have to carry them a long ways).

Leaving behind skis or snowshoes for the upper portion of the mountain would mean some heavy postholing of the temps are anything like they were this weekend. I just went to the lunch counter. There was probably a dozen parties on the mountain Saturday. I don't think many summitted because of the snow conditions.

Way cheaper to rent the plane when you want to fly.

A 2WD car can easily access Morrison Creek now. A 4WD can take you within about a mile or so of Cold Springs. You'll end up carrying skis pretty much the entire way to the wilderness boundary (unless you enjoy taking them off and on often). Patchy snow from cold springs to the boundary. It was so hot over the weekend that one person who summitted reported that flotation was necessary the entire way unless you wanted to posthole deeply. The turns were sweet but you definteily had to work for them.

I'm not an REI member. What 'benefit' am I actually missing? I'd rather chase after the best deal then deal with the smoke-and-mirrors bullshit of a "co-op" that isn't.

For instance, maybe you could post to Craigslist that you are looking for a running partner? I take it that there are no hotties in any of your classes? What about hosting a party and asking your friends to invite as many women as possible? For example, before I was married I used to hold an annual cocktail party where invitees were asked to wear 'vintage' formal attire (vintage was very liberally defined).
