    Denali Attempt

I thought the slog from KIA to 10,500 to be incredibly boring. Sure the scenery is spectacular but that doesn't make up for the monotony of pulling a sled for miles. From that point on I was in a continual state of awe though. I could not imagine doing it without skis. Ugh. I took Don Delilo's Underworld when I went. I finished it at the 14K camp and had one hell of a time unloading that massive tome. That shaved a good 20 pounds off my load.

  3. It happened at Beacon Rock. While you and I may respect birds, not everyone does.
  4. Several people I know have shown up for the daily lottery and always gotten their permits.

  6. Spent the weekend at the beach sitting outside and reading a great book, eating and drinking too much.

  9. According to my source, one of the emlpoyees was climbing unroped and cratered, breaking a few bones. I'm sure he is wishing he had been molested by MILFs.
  10. The worst was my Bontrager Race mountain bike that I had saved up for quite a while to purchase. I was in college and scraping up the dough (something like 1500 at the time) was tough. I had it less than a year.

  13. I've had three bikes stolen. Totally sucks. Sorry to hear of your loss.
  14. It means I got wood looking at those pics of the big rock. No slur was intended against you nor any criticisms towards yourself or Mr. Schneider.
  15. A great route to practice clean aid is the west face of monkey face. There's even a bolt ladder on one of the pitches. You'll get plenty of opportunities to place a bunch of different gear, get a system dialed and I seem to recall I used a hook for a couple moves just below the cave. Just the sight of a hammer can draw some ire so be careful. Hooks can scar the rock but if you are careful you can avoid this. I love hooks!
  16. In Oregon, the only time its legal to use deadly force is when you are IN IMMINENT FEAR OF BODILY HARM. I had a long discussion with an off-duty cop about this one time at a bar. I imagine the situation is similar in Washington. One time whilst living in NW Portland I awoke to a woman screaming "Help me" outside my window. I jumped out of bed and ran outside, squinting across the street (I was nearsighted but LASIK corrected this) and saw a guy dragging this woman down the street in a hammerlock. I ran back inside my apartment grabbed my gun and ran back outside. I was in the middle of the street, about 40 feet away from this couple when I shouted "Let her go" and chambered a round in my 9mm. His hands went in the air and the woman took off running down the street. The guy yelled "whoa dude, she's my girlfriend." At this point I realized I still had not grabbed my glasses and was squinting at his blurry figure. I also realized there was about 10 other people standing around watching me pointing a gun at this loser. I decided it was time for me to go back inside. Sucks being inside on such a nice day.
  17. There was some recent discussion of conditions on ttips.
  18. I had an article published there a few years ago. I should dig it up and post it.

  21. Nice write-up Jay. Gonna miss ya.
