I thought the story was boring and predictable (kinda like my posts), but the cinematography was freakin' incredible. I had a ManDate with two buddies on New Years day. We tried to get to the iMax version, but settled for 3D. We will go se the iMax just to experience it.
  2. I did, and what the poll in the first one told me was that more democrats are willing to look at a republican pov than vice verse....
  3. I thought this important CC.Com thread was about Limbaugh and Robertson teaming up to liberate young boys from their virginity.
  4. While there may be a few that are anti PLB; I believe I speak for most in saying that climbers are anti mandatory PLB. Please try to understand this. Get the word to everyone who could use one and let them make their choice. Use marketing and advertising, not legislation. The negative reaction is largely based on the notion that someone is proposing to legislate something that should be a personal choice and it singles out a group that accounts for a single digit percentage of SAR activity.
  5. I've gotta jump on Dan's bandwagon here. This bill will never pass, but I prefer it happen in a civil manner with the sponsors understanding and accepting the opposition's position. I would be willing to bet that PMR, as well as other SAR organizations are willing to help endorse and educate on the proper use of these items. What I think all of us agree on is that we don't want the state to mandate what we can and can't use.
  6. I'll see if I can come up with SAR statistics from the state. Shouldn't be that hard. Also, the thing that kinda got me was that he didn't just get advise from one source who said it'd be a good idea; he got it from a source who owns a business that sells and rents these devices. I agree with the sentiment on not attacking him for his physical appearance or anything else. It really can detract from the argument.
  7. Here's what I sent Mr. Liias: Mr. Liias, I will start by telling you that I will be an adamant opponent of this bill. I fail to see how this legislation serves any benefit to the general public. Please find attached the Portland Mountain Rescue position paper on the mandatory use of PLB's. This position and the facts contained in it were largely responsible for getting the Oregon bill shelved. I can assure you that their colleagues in this state will support a identical position. I have been involved with Volunteer SAR in this state for 15 years and have associates that have been involved for over 50. Instead of continuing to propagate the myth that these rescues cost the taxpayers thousands of dollars, the facts of where the money and resources come from is what really needs to be publicized. Those costs are from the same pools of money used to pay for searches for walkaway alzheimer's patients and missing children. You simply cannot pick and choose what portion of your voting constituency deserves the help that their tax dollars already provide. To add to the unintended consequences as outlined in Portland's position, since I have been doing volunteer SAR work, we have responded to ~30 ELT (aircraft) Beacons. All but one has been a false alarm. Also, since PLB's became available to consumers, we've had two callouts in King County based on PLB activation. Both were false alarms. I welcome any conversation and debate regarding this topic. I do respectfully request that this bill be withdrawn based on it's lack of benefit to the citizens of the state of Washington. Respectfully, Doug PMR's Position
  8. ok, so we're both right. now go do something productive for society.
  9. neither party has a lock on graft and pork. leave either in office long enough and it's going to happen.
  10. You asshole, I don't vote party line. I just think the conservatives are worse than the liberals; but I have voted for my share of republicans.
  11. When it comes to the Nanny State, you can always count on finding a "D" after the legislator's name. Don't you find it interesting that someone like me, bleeding heart liberal, is the one outing them?
  12. ok, not to say anyone here (including me) is lazy, but a couple of folks on NWHikers did some background checking and it seems this HB is sponsored by Rep. Marko Liias of Snohomish Co. (find him and more info on this on Facebook). It apparently introduced by a constituent and possible political ally Kevin Stoltz, the Mukilteo City Council VP who happens to own a startup company that (gasp)provides satellite based emergency locator beacons to individuals engaged in activities in the wilderness. He sells and rents them. You know, there were probably no laws broken here but this sure smells fishy.
  13. sheesh, asking for legal advice in spray is like asking the dope dealer to help you clean up.
  14. hey, for the record, if mine go's off I was hiking, not; I repeat NOT mountain climbing! I was taking a walk.
  15. Maybe they're hoping for some kind of tax increase. Write, call or shop up on your legislator's doorstep HB 2619

Be honest and tell us how you really feel... And besides, why are you liberals so afraid of her? You're correct here. Liberals should not be afraid of her. Once the "base" of whom she gets so fired up get enough prolonged exposure to her, the majority of them will see her for what she really is. A media savvy self serving self prompting under-educated idiot. Get her out there for all to see. Her shortcomings are not the product of a left wing biased mainstream media attack squad. She truly is all show. Enjoy it while it lasts.
  20. [/quote=KaskadskyjKozak]where the hell was the owner of this pitbull throughout all this? Probably glued to Faux News awaiting Sarah Palin to enlighten...

    Another beauty!

The decision of the Appellate judge was centered around incarcerated felons having the right to vote. In this state, they can already vote once they've served their time. The rub here is that it's illegal for anyone other than an elections official to open a sealed ballot. All prisoner's mail is subject to search prior to leaving the prison.
