Not to be repetitive but I think numbers add credibility. We also did it with a group of three with one sixty meter rope. One person ties in the middle. Very good for that route as the technical section is so short.

+1 for stoic and SAC. That is a stellar combination. Everything that I have that is stoic is top notch and comparable to anything else out there. I've also never paid full price for anything stoic.

a 50mm prime is also good for climbing. Good enough for scenic and also enough zoom for great climbing shots. Canon has a cheap but good quality one for less than 100$.

Second guessing is an educational process that all of us go through. I had the same thought (just didn't voice it on a public forum). I think probably most climbers would have that same thought. Again, thoughts go out to the climbers and the missing party.

Ya- I fail to see why "everyone else is doing it" serves as an excuse. But I probably drank wayyyy more than you when I was under age so I'm a big hypocrite.

Triple C hasn't had real ice since January AFAIK. Had about 10 feet of ice in Feb.

What these guys said. I have the exact set-up you described and fixed it the exact way these guys explained. Just cut a big notch in the insulation. Cut less at first because you can always go back and cut out more. Works like a charm. (I can show you a picture of mine if you want).

And +1 for the overhang. I have both the shorts and the pants and absolutely love them. I even use them when I'm shooting photography.

I think you'll find most people nowadays will recommend softshell. But for myself I find that during the winter I like hardshell. I tend to get cold wearing softshell in winter. Best option is to buy both but if you can't afford it right now I'd go softshell then buy hardshell later for winter (especially for overnight winter excusions).

Last time I checked (a week ago) the Mole was definitely still in the snow. Not sure the exact elevation the snow was at.

A bit pricey but worth it IMHO is the Arcteryx Silo 30. Great for carrying skis and fast to deploy/attach.
