    Hey lawyers...

Some parking cop gave you a ticket whilst you were at vertical world, eh?
  2. Camp Alp 95.
  3. I don't know your setup in terms of outside space but I created a rather simple overhanging drytool wall that I lean against a tree and climb up from the inside (the wall forms a triangle with the tree). I just nailed some two by fours on the inside and it makes for a great circuit workout. My guess is that, because you are in university you don't have this option (I feel for you- I'm in grad school). So, you might just have to slum it up until better options come around. Maybe not much help. Good luck all the same.

  5. lol my brother and I got suckered into (read as I convinced him to go down) that way. Figured it was best due to the hoards coming up behind us. Needless to say we won't be doing that again. Sorry to hear about your ropes. Best of luck getting them back.
  6. I tend to agree with Keenwesh. I carry a cell phone often, but that is it. Having an "easy button" would take something away from the experience for me. But I definitely don't condemn those who choose to carry one, either because they have a family or just want to be extra careful. Let's face it, it could end up saving your life.
  7. I've used them a few times, and while they do not inspire confidence like normal screws or go in very easily, they do work.

  9. Saw this on a certain aspiring alpinst's facebook (ok ok, facebook is lame lets just get that out of they way). Got me thinking- gimmi your hypothermia/cold stories. Personally I am prone to getting really cold so I have just learned to properly layer and keep moving to prevent it. I'm curious about other people's experiences. Also, just wanted to share this. (sorry Josh)
  10. " For the followers is it safe to be belayed on one strand of a double rope?" In short- yes.

  13. Update: just sending out a photocopy of the pass and ticket to the violations bureau. I'll update when I find out what they do with it.
  14. So I was up in the liberty bell group and forgot to put uP my wilderness permit. Came back on Saturday and had a 75$ ticket. Anyone here ever fight one of these and if so how did you do so and how did it turn out? Thanks, Cb.
  15. Someone is padding the comp.
  16. No way? Self-arrest?
  17. And no matter what you are never going to please 100% of people 100% of the time. Gaining consensus via the internet can be a hard thing to do indeed.
  18. Do I detect a bit of sarcasm there?
  19. Have you seen "Under Our Skin"? It's on netflix watch instantly I believe.
  20. I imagine if he won the lottery he'd invest it and save it and perhaps buy a lambo.
  21. I've done the trade routes on all three. Difficulty- meaning what exactly? How hard it is subjectively? I'd say Rainier is in another league but not by a substantial amount. One reason I say this is because Rainier seems to me to be more prone to adverse weather. Risk- See above. In terms of objective hazard I would say that Rainier is more dangerous. Also, being taller people are more prone to altitude-related problems on Rainier as compared to the other two. Conditioning- Being longer and higher than the others, you will need more fitness coming into Rainier. It just is a fact. Anyone who says otherwise is misleading you. Thanks for posting.
  22. I have to admit the word "republican" would have added to the already funny headline.
  23. I think what he means is that it reduces the amount of impact force that the helmet can take. Regardless, I think it was said sarcastically.
  24. Yes...but...the basic unit of energy used by the body is carbohydrates (glucose to be specific). With some exceptions they are what are used by the body. Everything is converted into them prior to use.
