[TR] Diamond Peak - Pioneer Gulch 2/1/2011
Teh Phuzzy replied to dirtysouth's topic in Oregon Cascades
nice, I was up that way during the end of summer and was thinking there was some nice lines to carve into that one. Way to get it! -
Looks like there is some fun to be had out there in the winter. Now that the hardware is out and my knee feels like my own, it'd be real nice to get back out there again; good head clearing after midterms

Barn Bluff on the Mississippi (beautiful drive up the river road from 90) is an interesting piece of work. A crag with an ice age's worth of sediments on top. Nice limestone with some funky gems scattered about. Off_White- The Superior granite is so hard and sharp, it is like nothing I have ever climbed. And all five layers of the granite are unique. Thinking about a free-solo-over-water trip to the good old BWCAW this summer. Man, I really miss that place. I never made it to Devil's Lake, but I've only heard good things.

Moss my first thought was Foot Condom...

exactly what I was thinking

the week I get the hardware out of my knee...

thinking about it... where are you stationed? If your in the Portland area we can probably come up with some arrangement.

the 41 and mostly sunny forecast was way off. It was wet and icy. The snow lower is packed down on the trail and there was only a little post-holing on the way down after it warmed up; none at all on the way up before sunrise. Off the boot pack would be a stumble-fuck w/o floatation. skipped the slowshoes and glad I did. threw on the 'pons at the last of the trees.

I am heading up there in the morn for one more peak before me hardware removal surgery on Wednesday. Has anyone been up there in the past couple days? I am mostly wondering if I need the slowshoes or if I can 'pon from the car w/o post holing like dick in an 82nd ave hooker. I knows its going to be slushy and wet, but I can't ski with this hardware in anyway. Thanks in advance!

[TR] Mt. St. Helens Summit - Winter Route 1/4/2011
Teh Phuzzy replied to jrex's topic in the *freshiezone*
I am headed up there on Monday, if anyone is up there between now and then I would love to hear what the snow pack is looking like after the dumpage we are supposed to be getting. Ballzy heading up there after so little skiing. Way to go after it and as most of them said, stay safe. I noticed in your gear notes you thought you should get ski crampons... I have found the 'pons for you boots are much more useful, imo. If I can't make the switchbacks happen and just want to go up, ski crampons won't do that for you as well as taking off the skis and slapping on some 'pons will. I personally can't warrant having a piece of gear that tailored to one thing when I can get something else that does the job and more. Again, this is just my opinion and I don't have the experience that others around here do, thats for sure. -
If I had any of the equip... go get it!

I don't suppose my snowmen where still out there, eh?

Wow! you gave him way more of a break than I would have... I'd have shaved that wookie clean, using his stick clip of course; I wouldn't want to touch that nasty looking piece of work... way to keep it classy

I am not so big on ropes indoors (outdoor trad envy), but I have been hitting up the Circuit (the new one right near PRG) and will be there today. I have a pass out there so I am there a few times a week getting uber pumped on the V1's Let me know if that sounds good, nine fifty two 8O7 sixty three seventy five ~Adam

Its a good deal for sure. It does expire the end of January so you can't stock up for yourself. Their new location in NE is pretty sweet. Old Woody rips at your cuticles almost as well as the real stuff. I particularly like all the top-out problems; due to a bunch of hardware in my knee I can't fall as gracefully as I once could.

Sorry to here about the bad luck. Worse for them climbing on bad karma... I have a feed on CL climbing gear up here in PDX and haven't seen anything, but I will keep an eye out.

Did anyone make it out to the trail buildings? I was scheduled for the first two (those got cancelled due to some fucking falcons *pun intended*), but didn't make to the one that actually happened because I was on a Phishing trip. I know that they weren't planning on opening till this spring, but with the spring falcon nesting I doubt we'll see it "open" anytime soon. The birds aren't up there now...

Alpiners Anonymous: PDX dry tool night
Teh Phuzzy replied to John Frieh's topic in Climbing Partners
Earlier is better since it would be nice to see the route in the daylight before heading up. I can be up there anytime after noon. Say 3ish, or earlier. I think sunset is about 1630 right now. -
South Park hit this nail on the head

Alpiners Anonymous: PDX dry tool night
Teh Phuzzy replied to John Frieh's topic in Climbing Partners
My (technical) tools are out on loan right now (I do have my alpine ax, but I don't think that will help me much) or I would take you up on that for tomorrow (I have most of the day). I have my 'pons and boots... -
