I think you are reading it wrong. For far too long have representatives acted outside the interest of their constituents (Republicans and Democrats). I don't think that it matters if the candidate is further right or left, just not the incumbent. FWIW I think you'll see the GOP get behind these new candidates rather quickly since they have no choice. I also don't think it'll help Democrats unless they can turn the economy around between now and November.

what's really rich is that "pay to play" (user fees) has become generalized in direct response to tax cuts advocated and won by the so-called "small government" (cough, cough) crowd that has been in charge for the last 30+ years. Do try to be consistent. While giving props to the program at Denali the fact remains that, at its core, it is an unnecessary governmental endeavor. Calling for smaller government while decrying the cost/benefit ratio of a pay-to-play scheme that isn't needed to begin with is not inconsistent at all. Do we really need an expensive government enclave at 14,000 feet? They really need the union up there, just think how bad the conditions are for those poor government employees at 14,000. They probably should do a three year study and then have union reps write a contract with all the necessary safeguards.

I suspect that once they sit down after the fact - do the math and divide what we spent into what we got, they'll realize that we f*ing overpaid X3 the going rate. In the end, we got off lucky in terms of American lives, not so much Iraqi life's. If one thinks regime change was a goal, a single Tomahawk missile to a Hussein family reunion would have been significantly more cost effective and the end game would have been very similar with much less innocent life and American treasure and world goodwill wasted. We could have sat back, let the international community work on them, and had the manpower, money and hardware to deal with the real threat just next door, a nuclear armed Iran. What was our opportunity cost? Hard to calculate. Fortunately, jb has his oil to refuel his SUV now. Little pricey though. Cost and justification are a separate issue.
