  1. stopped by Clacakamas for FS pass. Just did a quick look round; dig this-crampons but no mtn boots--hee haww!Talked w/former co-workers from there; and I thought I had a chip on my shoulder. Basically no rhyme nor reason for how they stock each store. and they never listen to the employee suggestions on what will work. ya, ax grinder here and such. hooray for corporate america!PS be very vigilant on your health care: most of these people are over worked, and work crazy hours--oops.
  2. Just back from happy boulders in Bishop, Ca. They are using wooden pegs with green tape staked on the bumble trails to cut down the impact.
  3. let me know how it works out
  4. fun times, thanks guys for sharing.
  5. This is a story, if it bores you, please try writing one. It begins with a superstitious grand pappy driving for too many hours while heading south in search of the warm globe in the sky and mythic awesome stone. Only G-pappy breaks his #1 rule: do not get in a hurry. Just north of susanville ca going south I pull out to pass a car to get to a rest room i know is just ahead. Wha' wha' Caly trooper passes me and I get pegged doing 81 in a 65. As the trooper pulls away after giving me my ticket I break down crying. Do'h, I'm an idiot. I head south again and stop at the rest area 2 miles further down the road. A day later after sleeping in my suzuki RV, for one, I makes it to the 'milks' to be greeted by a gale force wind. Dag'nabit, I'm go'in for a walk anyway. I make it back to the car before getting blown away. Baby pooh. I thought I read the winds were not to be as bad as JT. I go the long way to PV pit campground where it 'seems' to be not as windy--$2 per night per car for a craper that is cleaner than camp four is; well worth it to a cheep, I mean frugal, guy like me. Besides, not shitting everywhere seems to be a good idea. The big blow dies early in the evening. I have a visit with my oldest brother in a dream that night and wake up crying--he just passed away two months before. This a.m. I'm realizing I am not the only idiot to get a speeding ticket. The officer is just doing his job; he doesn't give a fig if I had just passed a car; "I don't know how they do it in Oregon but exceeding the speed limit to pass is illegal" he had said. The lucky part is he made the ticket out for 79, not 81 which is considered reckless driving and could have got me arrested. Joel Springer, from Smith R., rides up and says he is just leaving; he's been climbing here for two weeks, already. I enjoy the ambiance of the place, by staying out of the car, and walk to the happy boulders, which turn out to be a happy playground for itinerant Grand-pappies. I get in another walk and play day at the happy boulders the next day before the rain/snow hits; the forecast is more of the same on NOAA. My knee is sore and I decide not to wait out a week in the rain just to have to leave anyway. Sooo much driving for soooo little climbing. As most of you know, the climbing is just the tip of the ice berg as far as the whole climbing trip story goes: The epic driving and white knuckle road conditions, scenery, happy locals, wrong turns, cool people along the way, mystery, superstitious coincidences, geographical ambiance, signs, hidden mystery, insights, hindsights, headlights, lights out. Pleasant Valley with volcanic tableland rim rock The view from the rim of PV pit CG Pleasant Valley walk to Happy Boulders This guy named Michael walks a V7 Feeling Lucky on some V minus-minus for vigor Just imagine the time when there was a little baby Santa in the manger on x-mas. This is my present to you. Peas out!

  9. So just for curiosity's sake, who were you before the switch? Nevermind, figured it out. I have all the spice I need. Muad'Dib!! can hardly believe I watched Muad'Dib!! sooo many times with Opdyke. Of course, I smoked the spice way more in those days.
  10. Sweet, thanks RamaHanuKwanzMas.
  11. Thank you, the fog has lifted and the beautiful simplicity of it all is blinding me; sign, over analyzing.
  12. try wool felt insoles, I have yet to try them in mtn boots but damn, sure do work in my shoes: soak up moisture, keep feet dryer and warmer, and they are cheep, thick cushion, and last. I pooh poohed em because an old friend was always swearing by them; he's eccentric. Just shows 'ol farts aren't always blowing smoke, you just have to decide 4 yerself what is stink. Cabin Brand (The Thrifty New Englander, Ideal For Winter),$2.97, trim to fit. At this price what's to lose?
  13. FAQ yard sale. I'm still confused (surprise) about sequence of events in yard sale transactions. What keeps the seller from getting stiffed by the buyer? Does pay pal hold release of funds to seller until ups confirms delivery of goods? Who releases the funds to the seller after the goods are delivered, or rather, when are funds released to seller and who releases them? Thank you for info as I really do need to get good quality stuff back into circulation rather than letting it just collect dust.
  14. milton ; Milton works at one of the campgrounds in El Potrero, is bilingual, and said it is ok to e-mail him--super friendly nice guy, even took me to meet his family, say hi to him for me. Milton on the left.
  15. El Potrero was great like 4-5 years ago; not sure how it is anymore with all the drug wars, probably mostly in Monterey--not sure--might check out. Say hi to Magic Ed as he put up a lot there and invested big$. Take 2nd hand small shoes mostly (I'm guessing 5-6 or smaller, US) to donate to Ed if you can; He teaches local kids to climb. I drank the water there w/out problems as the supply is spring fed-not sure bout current situation. Enjoy. By the way, I was there in Feb too; very hot in the sun. Also, the 420 there really sucks, don't even bother if u r into that sort of thing, plus it just made me paranoid.
  16. Well just want to get a little strong again(and recover ankle boot rub) after being off the rock for last five weeks (if I don't include jugging 2k ft, over 2 days, at Beacon this week). Plus had to ditch mtn boots that kept wreaking me ankle/feet. Holding out on new purchase till after xmas in hopes of lower prices then off to Hayalite or Canmore for some ice.
  17. that's like calling a fat man "tiny" ya butt, a fat man may consider himself lucky enough to able to afford that phat.
