  1. technically speaking: what is the top of, and the bottom of, a band of clouds called?
  2. I like the guide that has down time idea: completely reasonable; they can always say no. I like the idea so much I may use it myself, primarily because I usually don't know when I will be "in" or 'out' of recovery and do not like to bail on people. However, I am on a couple of peoples list as the last person to call- I think I will use this in my next post for a partner. Plenty of people looking for work below their usual rate doesn't make them cheap or you the bad guy. Just a guy that doesn't have a lot of cash helping someone that needs some.
  3. any movement this way would mean a blood bath. anyway, it will all implode by it's own motion. gawd save the Queen
  4. let me throw a wrench into it: me thinks the biggest problem is motivation. The direction of societies motivation toward the "elite class". If the masses can't have it they will strive for it even if it means living vicariously, even minimally, through green lawns, cars, internet, porno, music, TV, movies, cheetoes, climbing, fishing, vacations, fast food etc. Even the poorest of poor have TV. Remember the depression; people still went to the movies to escape reality. It is all an escape from reality and totally useless behavoir. Food, water, shelter; sound familiar? That's all we really need but it's too F'in boring. Get some grunt to do the nasty work and some hack to fix me when I'm broken and leave me alone to waste my life as I see fit in a totally useless manner(one definition of privacy). 8 billion people-now fix it? I am a simpleton and old enough to know it. Every original thought I have had has not been original. My own personalized solution is????Geez, I forgot. Where was I? Oh ya, everything is fucked up because of all the fucked motivation. Some climbers are funny, they never admit to being selfish or arrogant or addicts. We're fucking hunters hunting for life threatening trashy cheap thrills. Now rationalize that. I'm sure someone can. Does that bug me. Sure, they make more money than me. So should we give up? Probably be better for the planet. Do third world people believe in the green revolution? If it puts food on the plate. Other than that I think it's all BS, feel good, buy, bye, by, y. If you made it this far check out 'privacy' on wikipedia. 70% of all new hires are based on histories that have been screened with the internet search engines. Old fucks like me will be living in cars or worse after I post this history of my negativity. Geez.
  5. Geez, what got against the guy, he can't hear you anyway; they crucified him, remember?
  6. So the alcoholic says, ' I'm not pulling any punches w/you, I'm an alcoholic.' I says, 'everyone has problems, what's the big deal? At least we can still buy a beer.'
  7. Arr Billy, have ya ever been to sea? Jeeezzz, I must still be in Kansas, and tired.
  8. I'm not a name drop-eererrr.. but Wayne said he liked Tahoe. Years ago Opdyke and me-self stopped there to crash on the way to red rocks and Wayne let us crash on the dorm floor, mostly I think Jim wanted to catch up w/Wayne , Jim being his mentor, anyway, all I remember is that it was a floor. Wayne was working, skiing and probably climbing there. So Wayne recently told me that he would consider it a good place to live- and I'm pretty sure Wayne does everything climbing related. Woah, good question Larry. I am impressed that you are looking to move for a bit. A couple of places have that, but are expensive and red. Jackson WY, and boulder, Co are neat. I like Bishop , Ca too. Second on the list is Vegas, Tahoe, Bozeman, Mazama, and Bellingham. I have a few friends that I have talked this out with as I too am considering new places to explore, Good luck, Wayne So let me know how it goes, I am ready for something cheep near the steep myself. Heard anything about Bozeman?

  16. Well, at least that is good news about the integrity of the 1st light. Now I'm just going to worry about being blown away in another wind storm. Note to self-get better tie down cordage.

  20. excuse me for sray-us-inter-ruptus; has anyone every been air born in a tent?
  21. I think I need to adjust my goals; what's das toof? I had fun last w/the Brothers High Ho Silver and co.(names have been changed) at Icicle. Good times there. And now I know about the secret camp that I always drive by. And the Brothers always make up for my lack of character with good pseudo-drama/comedy/pseudo-epics.
  22. G-spotter got back to me on this and I'm not quoting him but something like, to paraphrase with liberties; yo dude, have you checked the weather lately, or, maybe you need to smell the coffee first, or, wake up old delirious fatigued man, or, read between the lines bro. you're so neeeeeegative larry! you forgot ignorant too
  23. Actually what I said was, thank you I'm not a skier. And he said, Ya but the point is that techical rock is crap right now and technical high ice is hidden by snow. It's good for skiing and hiking and that's it until we get some sunny weather. I was just trying to make fun of how dense I am sometimes. The yoke is on me.
  24. Have you ever spent hours doing something you thought was a good job? Well, I hope this saves someone some time. I Silnet'ed the seams on my tent with painstaking attention to detail a couple years ago; the tent comes w/out the seams sealed or taped. Now the clinker: I did not have the tent set up/seams tensioned when I sealed it. So today I went outside to do something productive today(ya,sure) and pulled the tent fabric tight, not like a gorilla, but like firm at the seams. Yep, the goop pulled apart and behold, no goo on the stitching-hadn't even touched it. Recommendation: set up tent a few times, stress tent fabric several times. Then try to tension the stitching a little at the seam while your applying the goo to the stitching. And it actually takes very, very little goo in the right spot to do the job-as you all already know; 'cept me. If this is BS let me know.
