My friend and I climbed this route the other day along with the 2 pitch “Top Cat” above. Overall we found the climbing fun and cruiser. It felt like the easiest multi pitch in the darrington area. The perspective gives you great views of exfoliation dome. Even though it was dirty in spots, we thought the best pitches were pitch 2 of Top Cat (photo below) …and pitch 5 of Snagglepuss. We added one last horrible adventure pitch above Top Cat to reach the top of the formation. Cool place!

Wow, excellent adventure! I think all of us who have been tromping around these peaks for years have stories like this. Sometimes it’s from youth and naivety, other times it’s from a series of unfortunate circumstances. Either way, they are powerful experiences that help us learn and grow. The older I get the less I am proud of summits and more proud of challenging myself to make good decisions in the mountains. Cheers for surviving to climb another day.

Wow! What a trip! Impressive and creative way to use your free time together. A Wolverine siting is a blessing and goes to show you how remote that place is. They hate any human presence and will go out of their way to avoid them.

Nice report! I was out in that area years ago on a backpacking trip. Exiting over pistol pass and down that ridge on a hot afternoon was still one of the more miserable but also beautiful “trail” I’ve ever been on. Kudos for the out and back.

We all experience these days. Thanks for posting anyways. I recently spent 3 days up at the Wine Spires of WA pass and basically got rained out everyday and climbed nothing. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Excellent! This valley just keeps getting better with each route and even mildly popular! I was clearing some of the trail up to the illusion wall last Thursday and there were two vehicles in the parking lot from out of state! 😮 Looks like the word is getting out! 😏

Every outing, rain or shine, is an opportunity to learn about climbing and yourself. Keep at it! I love the youthful energy. Something this site has lacked for a while. Keep bringing the stoke, dude!

This is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing this adventure! I was in Kauai 7 years ago and remember looking up at that mountain and that east face and wondering. What a special place.

Nice report Jason. I had a similar idea for my 2020 summer. I was out there at the same time with a small crew. MY first time. What a place! That East ridge of Wolf's head is special. We, too, got turned around on a couple routes because we were looking for "easier" climbing. Turns out, we were just weak, out of shape, and scared! LOL!

Rad! Almost makes me want to get a new pair of ice tools!

How was the descent? Good skiing?
