[TR] Mount Baker - Watson's Traverse in Reverse
mountainsloth replied to JasonG's topic in North Cascades
excellent story and photos. I do love the Solitude of the Park/Boulder side of Baker. Cheers to Dwight! -
Private Idaho was crazy with people, but no accidents. I was there until 3pm on Sunday.

[TR] Western wanderings - 5/12/2012

yea, grad school for me did not look anything like this. Impressive sacrifices must have been made to do that much traveling while in school. -
"Outfitters and guides require special-use permits to operate on national forest land." What they don't tell you is how limited this actually is and very few are allowed these permits

Emmons/ Rainier partner first wk in June
mountainsloth replied to senior_cush's topic in Climbing Partners
I too am interested in a Rainier climb. Emmons or Kautz. I have lead ice climbing experience but would like to take 3 days to summit. My last two tries at a 2 day ascent crippled me with AMS. I am probably available 4-7th of June. PM me if anyone with experience is interested. Please no newbies to glacier travel. -
I never tape but would consider it if after days of climbing the condition of my hands necessitated it for me to continue to climb. Regular jamming should make it so you do not have to tape on a regular basis. BTW: Image of full hand to elbow tape gloves for Diedre makes me shit my self with giggles.

yea, i wish it was that easy, but schools, guiding companies and the like are all forced to work state lands and crowd the national parks. pretty frustrating.

Thanks for all your thoughts. Although I have led kids multi-pitching, only a couple are ready and/or have done them before. After scouting a few crags yesterday, I think I was right in thinking Private Idaho, K Cliff, and toxic shock area will be best. I stand corrected about x38. We could go there and will keep that in mind for next season. Guiding is not legal in NF because there are not enough rangers to patrol areas and are afraid of the environmental impacts larger groups can cause without regular check ins.
-
i agree with all of you, but guiding in a national forest (x38) is no longer legal (talk to your congressmen people!) My group has already been to peshastin, vantage, mt erie, and tieton this season, index is our last stop. We may change this in the future. Spire rock is man made and not what we are about. The crags we have visited are the only worthy crags for kids that are not in a nat'l forest or park and I would love to make index a worth while trip but want to do so without messing with the climbing community (aka me and all like minded people, i know i would be pissed if I stumbled into the lower town wall to see a group of kids hogging GNS). I will probably go out to my private idaho or possibly k cliff. any other ideas are welcome, keep them coming, but keep it index, i know the rest of the crags of washington.

i am trying to figure out the best wall at index for a group of kids. most climb single pitch under 5.9. I am convinced there is no such wall out there, but i figured i would check the community. What'cha got for me?

total sickness. your kid is super human!

great news! i had visions of a clear creek free summer. glad that might not be the case. work party?
-
I was out there yesterday to climb Outer Space. The wall is completely dry and the descent is snow free. Ticks are crawling on the wall though. I found about a dozen on me while climbing. My buddy saw one climb the wall and jump at him! The climbers trail is buried in significant blow down making it hard to follow.
