  1. I'll take them
  2. dean, thanks for the info.. I really admire the work you have done with this... once I get to the point where I can climb that, I will be sure to stop by and check it out. once again, nice work.
  3. wow. This is hard... condolences to the family and climbing partner during this tragic time. be careful out there.
  4. congrats... nice pics! Very inspiring
  5. how would you compare the new vipers to the grivel light wings? I am in the market for new tools, and the light wings fit my hands really well... and seem to swing well. I have heard nothing but good things about their picks. Should I hold out for the new vipers?
  6. The thing I have most about the atc-guide is when you use thick ropes (10.5 or more) the little grooves catch the rope way too much... making it very difficult to rap with. Yeah I know... just rap with the other side... well even when I do that It doesn't seem to be too smooth. Keep in mind, I am pretty light so I have trouble rapping due to my weight... 155lbs.
  7. does anyone know how these will compare to the petzl aztars and quarks?
  8. I am having trouble deciding between these two... the three person one is lighter and cheaper, but the GT version is interesting due to its long vestuble. Does anyone have experience with these tents? Are these good mountaineering tents? (I would mainly be using them as base camp tents.) Is the extra vestuble room worth the extra money? Please help me out! thanks!
  9. sorry... $200 is a little low for me
  10. Patagonia DAS parka all the way I love mine... this jacket is tough... the 3D insulation can take a lot of stuffing and un-stuffing... more so than primaloft. You do have to be careful with it though... I have heard that if you expose to to very warm temps, it can ruin the loft.
  11. Patagonia Guide Pants... these will get you through anything. I use mine all year... yep. All year. They are great pants for mountaineering in the winter, and bouldering in the summer. Just make sure you have a nice pair of shell pants just in case things get really hairy.
  12. this was given to me for christmas, and I don't need such a bulky bag. Brand new with tags still on it. Regular size, left zip. These retail for a pretty penny, and I feel that my price is fair. Please help me out, I need the cash to upgrade a bunch of items. Thanks. PM me or email at zeroforhire (at) yahoo (dot) com happy climbing!
  13. I am selling my old one... I just haven't gotten around to replacing the battery... now I have the observer... nice watch... $100 takes the vetor... it is black... any takers?
  14. hey alpaholic, thanks for the great resources... really opened my eyes to a lot of things. I think I am going to get a Gamma Mx hoody, and a lightweight Patagonia Rain Shadow shell for the times it gets especially wet.
  15. well, it I sold the others, I would get fired
  16. welcome to the real world. In order for a company to grow, they need to chase the almighty dollar. As far as them abandoning their core principals, that isn't really true. REI still outfitts many people (including climbers) for the outdoors. They still continue to give tons of time and money to local organizations that share the same core values as them. (Boy scouts, girl scouts etc.) So instead of throwning out aimless propaganda that sounds cool, do some research. While REI isn't perfect, (no large company is) they aren't nearly as bad as y'all think.
  17. yes, I am a member... was before I started working there. As far as the employees being underappreciated... I second what dechristo said... While a ton of people there have a ton of knowledge, they are paid pretty fairly. What else could they do with that knowledge anywhere else and get better pay? Besides maybe open their own shop and manage it themselves, or work in the outdoor media... there isn't much out there. As far as the comment that there are more disgruntled employees at REI, than any other outdoor business, that is unfounded. If there really are more, that is becuase of the sheer number of REI employees.
  18. weird... mail to mgbolp@yahoo.com then
  19. any more input? I know y'all have a wealth of knowledge
  20. thanks for the info sparky... yes this is the fall clinic special... I hadn't looked into the alpha lt... but it looks pretty good. I am not sure I like the full length cut, because I am pretty short, and am afraid it would fit me like a dress.... but I am looking to get the best jacket for the money. Something light enough to wear around town in the rain, but durable to do some mountaineering in... (i live in seattle) I was already pretty sold on the alpha sl, after reading some good reviews, but now you guys have got me thinking some more. Because this is a prodeal, I am not able to try on the alpha sl or lt... no stores nearby carry it.
  21. thanks for the input... the alpha sl has pit zips... wouldn't that help with the breathability? I didn't even think about the alpha comp... it sure looks sweet...
  22. I know how some of you feel about arc'teryx.... but I am really looking at getting the alpha sl. I like the fact that it weighs 13 oz, and still offers protection. I was wondering if you all liked it. Please, any owners; tell me your experiences with it. I can pro-deal this at a sweet discount, so that it why I am even considering this. Is this jacket going to hold up in the mountains? Is paclite durable? I would go to XCR, but I am worried about the weight.
  23. wow... you guys are the most hard to please bastards I have ever seen... REI, while not perfect, certainly doesn't deserve the crap you throw at it. Good place to shop, great place to work; and it carries a broad spectrum of gear. Prices aren't the best, but the return policy kicks the crap out of any other... quit your complaining, and shop somewhere else if you really can't stand it.
  24. alright... y'all are the same... all these REI haters... all the same stupid reasons... Oh no! REI is just as evil as Wal-Mart... WAHHHH! All the REI haters are quick to talk bad about them, and not mention the good.. that is how it always goes. They are consistently voted as a top company to work for... they give part time employees health care coverage! Who else does that? (starbucks does)... they give a ton of money to local groups like the boy scouts and girl scouts... so before you go off on a rampage about how REI is the bane of all existance, maybe you should do a little research and see what good they do. I think that in the sense that they are integral in gearing people up to do what they love, they have some saving graces.
