I am not concerned about the value of my collection... I am just interested in the economics of it all... Yeah... it is a boring topic.

With the recent news of alpinist closing its doors, I have seen a sudden spike in the sale prices of old issues. What is driving this? I mean, I know that all issues before 20 are rare due to the fact that the extras were burned up, but $600 for an entire set on ebay! Yikes! Am I correct in thinking that the earlier issues should be worth more than the later issues due to the fact that less were printed? Obviously the original number 0 is worth tons... but is the #1 worth all that much? Just a few thoughts... let me know what you guys think.
