I thought of that. And DO think of that. They get my money for sure. Maybe I'm a sucker for little kids with cancer, but to see the debilitating pain these little kids (and adults too) go through pales in comparison to those that have found themselves in need of help by thier own choice. No one chooses leukemia.

I definitely second that. I thought originally that because I wasn't descending hardcore--just trying to get back to the car and not having to walk out--that my Verticals would suffice. Not so. I recently got some Mega-rides (Dynafit compatible) and it makes a WORLD of difference. On top of that, they climb well and are as light as my Verticals. I am using Frischi's, but I am considering switching to Dynafits.

There are so many great things the Leukemia Society does, but the thing I like about Team in Training is that you can choose any number of events. Whether it be marathons, triathlons, or cycling events, any ability is welcome. The have great coaching and good seminars on how to raise money. If you need it, they'll hold your hand the entire way. A very solid program. A couple of years ago I ran the Chicago Marathon. I had to raise a boat load of money to get there. It definitely isn't a free ride. And the accomodations are modest at best. When I first learned out how much money I needed I thought there is no way I can raise that much. But I sent out my letters and you would not believe the response I got. People seemed to go out of their way to donate. I sponsored a little girl who was a direct beneficiary of a new drug on the market and she was alive because of it. It was amazing. I made my goal and more. It's been incredibly gratifying.

I know REI has them. They're cheap, so I don't know how extensive they are, but it may be another option.

I've always wanted to do one of those. There used to be one in DT Portland, but to my knowledge it doesn't exist anymore. Seattle has a lot taller buildings so I bet it would be a good challenge. Good luck!

I've been running marathons for the Leukemia Society. Kids with cancer is a tough deal. But running a marathon and raising money is easy compared to what people with the disease go through. You could either send them a check or get involved physically here.

Media glorification of mountaineering accidents
Couloir replied to hippos_are_evil's topic in Climber's Board
I was there today. Rollins did a fabulous job with his presentation. So did the 304th. Lots of good speakers today. Sounds like the brainstorming session last night at Steve's place was helpful! I'm hopeful this bill will either die, or result in a slight modification to existing statutes. Thank you Iain, Cluck and Steve (whatever avi you fly under) for the hard work...here, in Salem, and mostly on the mountain. :brew: -
Excellent post Pedroslog. Thanks for digging that up.

That's a great story!

Looks like some people are a little uneasy about a porn studio. Not sure why anyone is upset. I thought "anything goes" was the city moto. At least Gavin is on the case. He'll get it sorted out. He might be a little busy with his girlfriend though. Perhaps the city should foot the bill for any inconvenience this has caused this place. Better yet. Raise taxes. That would be a start. Maybe even some sunny Saturday afternoon everyone could get together in Golden Gate Park and put on a sensitivity demo and teach SF families about diversity and tolerance. You know, show them the benefits to keeping a smile on your face while you're hod-tied, being ass-fucked and branded at the same time. It's all good!

Is this what you're talking about? You can be in the park anytime as long as you've registered. You can in fact climb the mountain...via any route. The only thing is you have to walk (or bike/hike/ski/snowshoe/whatever) to get there. Mike's blog explains the details. I know I won't be going up there anytime soon. But a TR from someone would be cool.

Last time I saw a mouth like that it had a hook in it!

Exactly. Or people moving into the Pearl District in Portland, which is considered industrial, and complaining about the noise from all the trucks.

Barker, what do you know about this?

Story is she injured her back and leg. How many people that injured their back and leg today doing a recreational activity that didn't make the news? The media is in a fast-pace, continuous dry-hump during events like this.

I listened to this on NPR today and thought the mayor of the town defended himself pretty well. The host of the show kept trying to really make something out of it. He was simply laying down a few ground rules. Granted some of them seem pretty obvious (no stoning, burning, etc.). But as many callers pointed out, this crap goes on in other places. He's simply making it clear that the newcomers should realize that what is considered a time-honored custom in their country, doesn't mean it flies in his town. Different places have different customs for sure. It always struck me as funny that in Hong Kong they have signs all over the place saying "No Hawking." In China, they actually have hawking poles, where everyone spits. In the winter these things turn into this huge frozen pyramid of hawk. I can see why people would call it racist, but I don't think that argument holds water. Perhaps they should be more concerned about the misogynistic customs of some other countries...Saudi Arabia?

Of course. No boots will be 100% dry inside, from whatever source including sweat. I just think that small little space at the heal whether it be filled with foam or a piece of felt or whatever will make little difference between wet or dry feet.

Agreed pope. It's an excuse to drink...again.

Here's what I said awhile back about mine: I still use it and love it. I know others have different opinions. I have heard a lot of good things about the Petzl Tikka XP and Myo XP. And by now those may be much better.
