Im a soldier and a climber currently in Iraq, and I know two other climbers in my Company as well. We would love Alpinist, although I think they are far to valuable and donating them to CAI helps people too. Not 10th MTN, we are 4th ID from Colorado Springs, and Im from WA originally. I know all of us would like any old issues of Rock and Ice or Climbing or any other magazines lying around. The selection at the PX doesnt go much beyond SI and Maxim.

Thanks. Thats the input I was looking for. 45 feet was what I was thinking, both to allow time to self arrest and leave enoug rope for the rescue. Hadn't thought about the issue of too much rope though due to stretch, I had only considered it from the stand point of slack when trying to manuever. Thanks all

At what point did I say that I wasnt capable of building an anchor and transfering to it should the need arise? I was mosty just trying to capatalize on the knowledge here and get other opinions. Nothing wrong with getting other opinions before making your own considered descion. Also, of all the routes one could do as a two man team, the DC is pretty benign. The point was made that should you get in over your head there is help available...not that I am saying you should rely on it, just if you are going to go as a two man team you could pick worse places.

Heading up to the DC on Rainier with a two man team. Just wondering what the opinions are on what distance to put between us while climbing? 30 feet? 45? Im seeing different thoughts on this both in literature and online. Thanks.

Thinking about getting a MH Airjet 2 as an all around tent for use in Colorado and the Cascades. Specifically for an upcoming trip on Rainier (DC Route with my dad, his first time). Wondering if anyone uses this tent or has opinions on it. Its a single wall, light, and marketed as three season which I think will be alright almost all the time. Its between this and the MH Spire 2, a double wall 4 season, which is more expensive and heavier...... Thanks

Wondering about getting this tent rather than a 4 season tent for use in al seasons here in Colorado and in Washington. Says it stands up to 130 mph winds. Plus its pretty cheap. Anyone have any thoughts or any expierece with this tent? Thanks thomas

Wondering what people's thoughts are on this tent. Im in the market for a 4 season mountaineering tent in the near future and have been mostly looking at single wall tents, mostly the Bibler I or Eldorado or the Integral Designs MK 1. Then I saw this. Not much more weight, and a double wall. My thinking is that in summer, and at lower elevations, in Colorado and Washington where I climb, it might be better. More breathable, better in the rain, and, for nice weather, i can lighten the load and take just the fly and a footprint. Also, its cheaper. Any thoughts?
