  1. Go read it again. When setting up a top rope it is important to make sure the the locking carabiner(s) the rope is doubled through is actually attached to the anchor. OH SHIT! Guess I completely missed that little tidbit. It would almost be funny if it weren't such a suckass thing to have happened. Rapping off a pile of rope laying on the ground... hmmm, yep, that tends not to hold body weight.
  2. Don't mean invite thread creep, but it sounds like she had everything setup correctly. What could she have done any better? I didn't hear anyone say "if she had checked (blah) then she would have found it to be faulty". Sounds like she decked and after looking over everything it all looked fixed, intact, and properly slung. In other words, nobody knows why she fell???? Just wondering what everyone else does to try to prevent these "magic" failures from happening.
  3. I might not be able to make thurs, but if the other are ok with it go ahead and move it.
  4. On our last drytooling night I tried yellow lens safety glasses. They would be perfect (durable and much improved visibility in the dark) except for what forrest_m points out: fogging! They hug your face a little more so they don't breath as well. I plan on adding some anti-fog shit and drilling some vent holes in 'em, but asside from this they seem to work well. And, I've seen Nolse's clear lense. It's big, but it looks bombproof. No venting issues here! But, don't you need a special helmet for them? Looks like your's mate together.
  5. What about TNF packs? You are paying a premium for the name, but they seem to have some OK offerings in regards to features. Any opinions/experience with their tech packs?
  6. ...and in the educated US, it's only a little more than an hour.
  7. [quoteIn "the lingo" it's called going to toshi station to pick up some power converters. May the KY be with you!
  8. You could always hit up elliot on hood. Pretty much cooper spur ski area as far as you can drive, hike up to the glacier, and then hit up the ice lines to the south (cooper spur ridge) or the crevasses in the glacier itself. I've done this B4.... better than nuttin'.
  9. Uhhhh.... Jan 3rd was a Monday, not a Thursday. I'm confused; if someone was signing up now, how many classes will they have missed?
  10. Yeah, yeah. That Oleg has some good shit, eh. Went down smooth.... wish I could have hung around for more than the first couple of rounds. But... I ended up getting wrung out by double fisting beer and Captain Morgan's & Coke(-a-cola)..... hmmmmmmmm. Oleg - thanks for inviting me and the Mrs over. I'd like to come over again some time and try some more of your whacky Russain ways (vodka and pickles?????? who knew!).
  11. Hey, good job guys... there's nothing better than finally summitting a mountain that's taken several attempts. Oleg - Damn I'm jealous. The next time you ask me if I want to go do something, I'll just call in to work sick!!!!! Cheers to all three of you!
  12. ...current conditions on the moon?
  13. Mine's on the huge ice block that can only stand the weight of one climber...
  14. TOTALLY! Now that the holidays are effectively done with (good ridence) I'm currently feeling like I'm at the bottom and ready for the big swing toward fitness again. Time to stop eating shit, stop drinking so much ( ), and start getting serious on the peaks/bike/gym walls/whatever. You aren't suppose to fluctuate a great deal though. The whole yo-yo thing is suppose to wreck your body. Not sure the details though.
  15. Reminds me of the girl with terrets syndrom in Duce Bigelow.
  16. Knickers, schmickers.... WTF????
  17. It amazes me how awestruck people are about cars. "Oh my car is broken... what do I do". FIX THE FREAKING THING!!! I don't have an engineering degree and I do a vast majority of my own work. For the price of a few biners and a few brews you can get some screw drivers/pliers/wrenches/etc and do quite a bit yourself and save tons 'o $$$. Definitely invest in a book on your car if you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground though.
  18. This coupon is "20% off any ONE item", but figured out an angle. I just bought several individual things last night from rei.com. I broke each item into separate purchases so I banged in the coupon code for each and got the whole thing for 20%! But this only partially helps since their prices are already marked up 85%. Also, the item that you use the coupon for is NOT counted on your divedend, but they can keep their 0.00000000002%!!!
  19. You said it, not me!
  20. For THAT sort of gift, I'll be your boyfriend!
  21. Luna my dear, you have GOT to be ONE UNIQUE specimen of a woman. I like that! My wife plays up the whole "it doesn't matter" bit, but I know she would have sulked if I didn't whip out the rock on a ring at proposal-time. Most girls play the whole "doesn't matter" thing about as much as us guys are actually scum bags saying "no, I didn't just check her out!". It's all an evil, twisted deal... surprised our species has done so well on this rock.
  22. Deep fried candy bars are the least of our worries.... http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/leisure_ckerestaurants_dc
  23. Don't have my book handy... which one is that? One of the lines coming off of S.Cliff it sounds. A little description would be handy. Oh yeah, "go up, don't fall".
  24. I've seen a few indoor gym's web sites showing off their "ice" wall, so I've seen this more local before. My wife is a sales rep for a foam manufacturer. Some place in Bend, OR has called and asked her for some super-dense foam for their indoor ice wall. Not sure the name of the place though. I thought this was an awesome idea for a home ice wall but found out that the foam in question is super expensive!
  25. Saw this on another cc.com post. Don't want to nark someone out, but what do others think? Is this a normal, acceptable practice? I myself haven't seen it before and don't know if I should be scared or inspired. Just wondering....
