  1. hey man, I'll call you by 6 tonight if my bro can't make our trip (CD on Baker), I was going that way anyway to check out the West Ridge if he bails. Do you want to climb the Cascadian?
  2. "Rich Purnell: Why not drench yourself in gas and FREE SOLO to the top, then light yourself on fire and JUMP. You'll be doing the world a great big favor, as well as creating a truly asthetic climb that contrasts the two mediums of life and death while bringing back some excitement to climbing and creating an appreciation for gear." I'd pay and stand in line to watch that
  3. I agree it sounds to me as if they were trying to make sure they wouldn't have to rough it all night, just in case they didn't make it back before 8...I wonder if they thought that if they were still way out there at 8:00 then SAR would just come down from the heavens and carry them home. I hope they walk out (on their own) today, cold & hungry but safe and sound
  4. how nice! sounded like a real comfy bivy site at least.
  5. I was lucky enough also to have perfect weather (in mid July) once for an over-nighter on the summit. We stayed in an Igloo that had been built by another team. I had been at Muir for 4 days prior to the summit climb, that helped a lot with the altitude

    Cashmere?

total tick-fest. I have never seen so many of the pests on one trip. changed clothes at the car, drove home and found two more when I dropped my drawers...but other than that, Cashmere is areally cool and easy scramble.
  7. I was up and down the Icicle Sat/Sun, saw no sign of any emergency crews. Sunday afternoon at Castle, nothing but gapers there that I witnessed.
  8. 'borrow' it and have a good time. trust me
  9. right on man, what's next?
  10. thx for the detailed report man, I've got another month to go before I attempt the same...honestly, I hope it's a bit drier then!
  11. thank alpinfox, I stand corrected, the TNF is about 2.5 pounds!
  12. on Canary, about ten feet above a #2 hex. climbing in tennis shoes back in those days
  13. Rat's are great climbers and jumpers, here's to one of the best! Good boy Biskit...
  14. Speed is an essential part of climbing, some routes you simply can't lag on, I learned that lesson on Dragontail years ago. but on others that luxury can be a real and exciting part of the whole climb. A planned bivy can be cool, if everything goes according to plan! being old and slow probably has about 98% of my decision making as to pre-plan a bivy or to go for it.
  15. I am going to the west ridge in July and planning to bivy below LJ tower. It can be done in a day but why, when I have the time and I enjoy hanging out.
  16. I 'did it' on top of da tooth (with a girl of course). sorry no photo's. Had to hurry cuz there were others heading up. I like to think that was a FA
  17. nice trip, killer peak. The thunder is so loud there I almost lost some fillings in my teeth...prolly from clentching them so hard.
  18. I have a 20 that held hermit crabs, it looks as if the seals are still in place. no lights, just a screen top
  19. but this gets done regularly as a day-trip ramble oh yes, that's true...but I wuz thinking that with the long weekend, might as well go slow and enjoy a few stops along the way...Little A and Witches Tower make fun side trips.
  20. sounds really fantastic, nice trip! all them goats wants is a little lovin! (ok, some pee too)
  21. I did the Ozette loop a couple of years ago, on a recommendation ...I thought it was a very disgusting, filthy hike. I was amazed at the amount of garbage all along the coast. I've never seen a mountain lake or scramble so gross. Sure, the scenery was nice, lots of interesting animals...raccoons, deer, otter and lots of birds. beware of piles of fishing nets/ropes and general garbage. Don't forget the bucket and cord. there are lots of high lines with pulleys set up at every camp spot I saw
  22. and no charges filed in the case of the 4 year old...I guess there isn't a law about being dumb. I don't know about others but I kept an eye open for my kiddies. I felt really sad for that family after reading about this stupid accident
  23. nice job and perfect timing! I've been cooked to the bone twice up there. Were you able to drive to the TH?
  24. in Aasgard and out Snow lakes in two days? that's hoofin it pretty good. Memorial weekend, you should expect to see other parties for sure. Take at least three days if you want to enjoy Prussik. I have not been there this year but I think you can count on plenty of snow and frozen lakes. Have fun in the sun!
