    RIP Phydeaux

Sorry for your loss Sobo. Phydeaux looks like he was quite the cat.
  2. Check out this guys page: http://www.facebook.com/japanesecaribou On Mt Hunter right now with plans to stay for 2-3 months.
  3. Fun! I'm in Vermont for new years & was just googling to see what's in & found a link to cc.com for northeast conditions. Looks like a fun route.
  4. I badly sprained my ankle & fractured my tibia / talus on sept. 11th. I was in a soft cast for 7 weeks and since then have diligently followed my PT's advice. He has told me I can XC ski, swim, ride a bike and go on short (less than 45 minutes) walks. Until I reach full mobility I'm stuck with low impact activities. In short... don't push it. You've got a life time of climbing and skiing ahead of you. It's not worth it.
  5. I use a single 8.5 Mammut Genesis for easy alpine routes. By easy I mean mostly steep chossy 4th class, easy 5th class or snow / glacier routes. However - if there is a chance of a good long fall then I want doubles.
  6. Here's a short piece on the making of: http://www.adventure-journal.com/2011/12/the-behind-the-scenes-of-a-killer-street-skiing-video/
  7. Also... For your Eyes only. The Meteora climbing scene is pretty awesome (as is the skinny ski chase scene).
  8. The Man who Skied Down Everest! Supposedly the recent movie St. Elias is pretty good - but I haven't seen it.
  9. My wife got frostbite a couple years ago so she upgraded to the Baruntse boots. She's been plenty warm in them & this past May wore them on Denali and stayed toasty. She's a big fan both for warmth and comfort.
  10. You'd survive in a zero degree bag - and probably sleep comfortably most nights. But why chance it? You spend a considerable amount of time in your bag in the AK Range and on Denali you'll spend a considerable amount of time in your bag at high altitude where it can be damn cold. Unless you're gunning for a technical route take a fat warm -15 or -20 bag. If you are gunning for a technical route take a warm bag anyways becuase you'll be hanging out at 14 and 17 camp for a long time while acclimatizing and waiting for good weather.
  11. Too much stoke...
  12. You guys are just jealous that Maria Cantwell doesn't get the headlines like Don.
  13. Awesome!!! I was born in Sao Paulo but left at age 5 & haven't been back. A visit for beaches & cragging is in order!
  14. Developers love people who say "I have this idea for an app." Really they do. It's like a conversation we've never heard before.
  15. The predominant issue facing public lands is not legacy claims being pursued. The main issue is from new claims on National Forest and BLM lands. You cannot stake new claims within Wilderness Areas or National Park - however you can on USFS lands. Do a quick search for "oil gas mining public lands" and you'll find dozens of articles referencing the rise of development on NF and BLM lands within the past 10 years. Or better yet - go climbing in the Winds and note the oil and gas boom on BLM lands surrounding Bridger Wilderness.
  16. Agreed. The TLT speed model has been tried & tested everywhere - they're simple and bombproof. I wouldn't want a race type binding for an extended trip. And "twice the weight "is relative. They're only 335 g - the weight difference being equivalent to one and a half cliff bars.
  17. UAF has a huge collection of Austin Post photos here: http://www.gi.alaska.edu/cgi-bin/gdftp/imageFolio.cgi?direct=Austin_Post_Collection&x=5&y=10 If no one here responds try contacting him via UAF.
  18. There's technical climbing on Fuji? Who knew??? I hear you need to know which tea house to stop at on the trail up. Maybe he meant "tactical".
  19. Except that offshore production is now the norm instead of the exception. Met the guy who started 5.10 years ago while climbing in CA. Nice guy. Hope the decision to sell was partly his to make & that he now has more time to climb.
  20. Is that your Supercub? And why oh why would you move away from Fairbanks?
  21. Very nice! Thought you'd be interested in this link regarding tallest rock faces in the lower 48: http://www.thecleanestline.com/2011/02/bigger-than-el-cap-a-totally-unscientific-search-for-the-lower-48s-biggest-rock-faces.html
  22. A big thanks to the Access Fund for getting involved. They've set up an easy form mail letter at the below address. Visit the link and help support our dysfunctional community. And when you visit bring your climbing gear - you haven't climbed in AK till you've sent a road cut smear inches away from a snow plow. http://www.accessfund.org/c.tmL5KhNWLrH/b.5208267/k.8C84/Action_Center/siteapps/advocacy/ActionItem.aspx?c=tmL5KhNWLrH&b=5208267&aid=516716
