  1. This is what I understand. There is parking at the dutchman flat for over night. But it is a small parking area and only a couple of spots for overnight. Look for the "no-over night signs." Also get there early cause that parking lot gets full fast!!!! like 7 am from all the sleds. Have your snowpark permit. The overnight parking is parallel parking along the north side of the lot (take the bit info at your own risk). For the real info call DOT and or the Ranger.
  2. Thanks for the porn. Needed that!!!!! Glad some one is getting out for some good weather turns. Now if the weather would cooperate and give us poor working suckers some good conditons on the weekend, that would be great. Gotama in the house
  3. edited due to the fact I put responce in wrong post. Sorry but damn that looks like a nice trip. Putting this one on the list.
  4. I will take the first, second and third pitches, you can take the fourth I am helping out with class all this weekend (weather not looking so hot). Thinking about night sking/skinning up Hood SS. Or possibly booting up to crater rock at night to get some extra in for shasta.
  5. jlag you see the last post from billy. Middle sister NE face. A must do, or at least on my tick list.
  6. Welcome climbnsparky. You have or will see the light living in the best part of the country. I head up to hood all the time, and know others who would like to head out.
  7. Ya looked at the Grivel, and not impressed with it at all. Looks a bit gimicky. CJ good point, just use the whippet for the good stuff. Guess it is time to start looking for a pair.
  8. Would like to fit the whippet handle to a regular ski pole for self-arrest on steep slops. Been looking on web but can't find it sold with out the entire pole. Thought a little extra measure of safety was a good idea. I would buy those poles but at $80 a pop they are a bit on the spendy sides, since I like to bend my poles in various ways (landing on them, getting them stuck in the snow in lord knows what).
  9. Ya this stinks for climbing right now but with any luck we get a huge snow pack and snow routes last hella lot longer in the late spring and summer. Was thinking about heading to Thielson for a newbie trip, but that is not looking like such a good idea for this weekend.
  10. 1> Stay injury free 2. Stop climbing in crappy weather. Be pickier on weather. 3. Ice, like to get some water ice 4. Alpine rock!!! 5. More time in north cascades 6. Win the lottery so I can skip work and play all the time
  11. Guess I will be packing rope and harness. Man my pack is geting larger and larger..lol Thanks for the info.
  12. Check out the forcast. Looks like rain, have fun
  13. Thanks for the info. I was just going off what I had read in Becky. Magic is to the south east of Cascade Pass and Booker (if I remember correctly) is south east of Buckner. I guess I will play it by ear and see what is up there. The weathe is not looking so hot for this trip anyway. Rain-O-Rain come again some other day, lets see some freaking snow
  14. check out turns-all-year.com. There as a trip report to Sahale.
  15. If the weather is decent I am going to head up to cascade pass for some turns and climbing. Have some questions about getting off some of these in winter. Trying to figure if I need to pack a rope and harness. Might be a bit too much for the time I have but figure too much info in this case is better than too little. The plan is to hike/ski up the road and camp at or very close to cascade pass. Then head out to these mts. Sahale would it be easier to rap off and what is there to rap off? Boston looks like it will be easy to walk off. Mt Buckner SW route. Would rapping make it easier to get through the rock bands? Mt Booker sounds like a nice walk off. Has anybody done the Magic Mountain North Face? This seems like a definite rap off. With the weather changing avi might negate all these climbs but Sahale. But one can be optimistic Thanks, Letsgo
  16. Silva, ranger I think. Will go and check out about sending it in. Thanks for the info.
  17. About a year ago a bubble in my copass appeared. It has since become larger. So large I believe it is affecting the function of the needle. What causes the bubble to form? Right now I think some how the underside of the compass gets pressed too hard and some how air is let in and liquid is let out. Going to buy a new one but would like to prevent this in the future. Any ideas? Thanks, Letsroll
  18. thanks for the info. Sounds like it will not be a problem. Will double check with the ski area just to be safe, hate to show up and car towed..lol. If it works out I will be posting TR. Hope to get some snow up there before I head, otherwise it might be a bit icy.
  19. lol that helps me a lot...lol
  20. Was thinking about heading up to shuksan arm and spending a couple of days up there. How does the ski area feel about cars parked there for a couple of days? ALso what is the cost of a snow park permit in washington? How far up the arm do people typically go? Taking the week off between X-Mas and New Years, get in shape week . Another trip I heard of is to go through the white pass ski area and skin to goat rocks area. Anybody done that one?
  21. Can you get up to Mt Baker in the winter? If so what routes are open? Is the approach way long? Going to take the week off between x-mas and new years and looking for something to do. Other ideas?
  22. JayB, How do you like your cold play pants from beyond fleece? did they fit perfect the first time? Are the cold play pants too warm for hiking even in winter? I am looking at pants and having trouble deciding between the Cold play and Cold fusion pants. Don't want to get too warm of pants (tent to hike warm and don't want to sweat out to bad), figure that if it is too bad I can put on my shells for a bit more protection.
  23. thanks for the info. She seems ready, and willing to go. Her trip in the summer was cancelled (Mazamas, The trip cancelling club). I was up there last winter with good coverage and had a blast in the snow. I would hate to do that one in the summer!!!!!
