Considering the fact that everything possible was done to set this up and edit the footage to make her look all rugged 'n outdoorsey.....

This is what has been puzzling me quite a bit lately. Most of our resident regressives are not outright monsters on the order of say, Pol Pot or Dick Cheney, and they aren't flat-out stoopid like yer typical teabagger, or even Missy O'Donnell, so what drives their particular ideology? I've given up on trying to have a reasoned discussion with their ilk, because it only ever seems to result in lies, personal attacks, tangential and misleading responses, or, my personal favorite, suggestions to Lick Sack. Like that settles anything. Where does that deep seated resentment of so many other people come from? What's so effing threatening about someone making a modest yet decent living driving a bus, pushing papers for the gummint, or heavens forbid, dependent on public assistance for some of their basic needs like healthcare? I'll bet everyone here bitching and moaning about cutting their taxes doesn't find it too hard maintain a decent standard or living, and has enough left over to fill up their gas tank for a weekend in the mountains equipped with a few thousand dollars worth of outdoor gear. And all the while they think that they are pulling for people who want to help lower their taxes, the top %5 of the income pyramid is gobbling up bigger and bigger chunks of everything in sight, making damn sure that their taxes go down by a king's ransom, and shifting the tax burden down to the middle class suckers who believe their propaganda. Meanwhile, if you happen to be poor, old, sick, unemployed, or some other unimportant looser, tough shit. You should have made better choices, eh?

"I think J_B was taking issue with the impact illegal immigrants have on representation in congress. States with large populations of illegal immigrants receive a disproportionate number of seats in the House of Representatives because noncitizens are included with citizens." Ya'know, if you regressives weren't so wrong on every point, you might not need to lie so freaking much. I seem to recall that House seats are apportioned according to the latest census; we're still working under figures from 2000. And you're telling me that hordes of illegal brown people reported themselves to the 2000 census takers so that they can have more representation in Congress? 'Don't think so. How about this for skewed representation? Because each state gets two Senators regardless of population, via the unprecedented obstruction by the current minority party in the Senate (and yes, the spineless response from the majority), about %18 of the population's representatives get to squash any legislation that they choose to. Why do you people hate America so much?

Try reading the next two paragraphs, and the truthiness changes substantially. Not that that's relevant. "Republican-leaning third-party groups, however, many of them financed by large, unrestricted donations that are not publicly disclosed, have swarmed into the breach, pouring more than $60 million into competitive races since July, about 80 percent more than the Democratic-leaning groups have reported spending. As a result, the battle for control of the House has been increasingly shaping up as a test of whether a Democratic fund-raising edge, powered by the advantages of incumbency but accumulated in the smaller increments allowed by campaign finance law, can withstand the continuing deluge of spending by groups able to operate outside those limits, according to an analysis of political spending by The Times." Next lie?

The fundamental message I take away from this is a) Money Talks b) 'Sure is easy to scare people into voting against their best interests. how else to 'Splain 1098 going down? Much as the Dems in general and Obama in particular have deeply disappointed me, I still tend to see them as the best choice given that any third party vote typically equates to a plus in the R column. I'd absolutely love to see a meaningful third choice, but don't have high expectations given how powerful the two corporate parties an the mainstream media have become (and how throughly demented the electorate seem to be.) The (perhaps) only reason I'd vote for the tall, thin, dark-skinned gentleman for president again is because the next one is likely to have a huge impact on the makeup of the next SCOTUS, and we can't deny how very important that is given the F'd up current batch of activist judges and how they've allowed big money to anally rape this country with their Citizens United "decision."

Palin/Rossi 2012! Damn, that would be some awesome, Maveriky, forward thinking ticket.

I've heard that they are collecting videos of really bad climbing action for the "Hey kids, don't do this!" portion of their Basic Climbing Course. Or, maybe they are having problems with people messing with the facility. I suspect they have other ways they'd rather spend their time and money than snooping on John Q. Public.

"Alternative thread title: "I don't have a fuckin clue how our legal system works, but that doesn't stop me from being OUTRAGED about it!" " Ignorant outrage, here in spray????!!! Unheard of!

"I might just start a collection of mangled and twisted 700c rims which I will hang from my garage rafters as macabre highway trophies." You are just a barrel of laughs...sick fucker. FW's idea of Fun This is your idea of appropriate behavior when someone else interferes with your perverted sense of personal freedom? The driver, a physician who had worked on Hospital ER's for years told the 911 dispatcher that there were "no serious injuries" sustained. Apparently they were still ambulatory, and therefore not that badly off in his judgement. Nice guy. Maybe the two of you ought to go live on some desert island with no brown people or bicyclists around to disturb you sense of entitlement.
