We went to Orizaba a few years ago. We did not rent a car. The bus system down there is fantastic. We went from Mexico City all the way to Tlachichuca in a little less than a day and had quite the experience doing it. We stayed with Senor Limon in Tlachichuca. We ate with the family while we were there. He has a smaller operation than Sr. Reyes, but Sr. Limon is a person you won't soon forget. Chatting with him was one of the highlights of the trip.

A toenail? I've got an extra laying around.

This is exactly my point. As a population, we overlook the wrongs of a person, a government, or a group of people as it suits us. All of this at the behest of the government's idea of who is, or isn't an enemy at the time. Does the government have it's reasons? Yes. That doesn't mean that we, as citizens shouldn't question the motives. FYI - you didn't provide any substance to the argument. Your statements have been diversions from the point and questioning my motives, not discussing the issue. You are very good at arguing, but you are not good at discussing and furthering a conversation.

Yes, I really am that confused. Not that you've really listened to what I had to say before. I was pointing out that his views are not that uncommon here in the US, or amongst other world leaders. They just keep their mouths shut. You seem to think that having these ideas is ok so long as you don't talk about them in public. Let's be honest. You don't really care. No matter what I put below this you will rationalize away and make it irrelevant to your argument. Cough... Iraq... cough... I'm sure that Saddam didn't have all those ideas of murder and torture when we helped him gain power in 1979. Bin Laden and others associated with Al Queda recieved training and weapons to help in their fight against Russia. A ton of money comes from Saudi Arabia to support various terrorist organizations. Are they not allies? I know, OFFICIALLY the Saudi government has nothing to do with this, so it is ok. Never mind tha tthey could stop this money through controversial actions like freezing bank accounts of citizens and so forth... I guess we only have to worry about the world enemies that stand up and give us a public "F*ck you" while we play house with others who are more like our official enemies than we would like to admit. I'm not going to convince you of anything. That's ok. But I'm sure that the US government is always doing the right thing, so I'm just going to shut up and take my place in line like a patriotic citizen.

I would rather know who my enemy is and greet him face to face than to have my "ally" stab me in the back. How many regimes has the US put into power only to have them turn on us? I'm not idealistic. I am many things, but idealistic is not among them. I admire a man who isn't afraid to stand up to the world's super power. Yes, he oppresses his people, he doesn't believe that the Holocaust occurred and that 9/11 was a hoax. That isn't any different than thousands of people across the US, or any of a number of governments with which we are are friendly. The only difference is that Ahmadinejad is honest about it. Why single him out? We wouldn't even be having this discussion if he wasn't honest because our administration and the media would have portrayed Ahmadinejad as a valuable ally in the Middle East. No one would have questioned Columbia for inviting him and he would have laid a wreath at Ground Zero. It's not about reality it's about PR and how the people are manipulated.

Should we support any of them? Can we continue to get along in the world without supporting some oppressive regimes? It's the ignorance of the general population that irks me. Some of the most outspoken critics act like Iran is the only bad country out there.
-
That's about the stupidest, most ignorant comment you've made to date. Pot, meet kettle
-
Everyone is free to criticize. I'm not suggesting otherwise. It's the way that he has been singled out as a bad guy that I think is silly. He is no worse than other people the US is on good terms with.

If ignorance was a reason to blacklist a person... I still like that he has the chutzpah to stand up to the US. The best part was when he asked to visit Ground Zero. I don't think it's chutzpah so much as active contempt. He's clearly concluded that they can play hardball in Iraq and elsewhere, toy with nuclear inpsectors indefinitely, openly call for the destruction of Israel, crank up the repression within Iran, etc - so long as he reads from the right script when addressing a Western audience, within which there's a substantial bloc who will be prepared to overlook these minor indiscretions if he does so. Exhibit A: "Why I Have A Little Crush on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad by sallykohn Sun Sep 23, 2007 at 05:50:02 AM PDT I know I'm a Jewish lesbian and he'd probably have me killed. But still, the guy speaks some blunt truths about the Bush Administration that make me swoon... Okay, I admit it. Part of it is that he just looks cuddly. Possibly cuddly enough to turn me straight. I think he kind of looks like Kermit the Frog. Sort of. With smaller eyes. But that’s not all… I want to be very clear. There are certainly many things about Ahmadinejad that I abhor — locking up dissidents, executing of gay folks, denying the fact of the Holocaust, potentially adding another dangerous nuclear power to the world and, in general, stifling democracy. Even still, I can’t help but be turned on by his frank rhetoric calling out the horrors of the Bush Administration and, for that matter, generations of US foreign policy preceding...." http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/9/23/83652/6735 It would appear that his contempt is well founded. As far as free speech is concerned - Mr. Ahmedinejad, unlike his countrymen - is free to say whatever he wishes in Iran. Even if there were no institutions in the US willing to host him, neither his freedom to do so or his ability to extend his message to any audience of his choosing would be compromised in the least. If some institution chooses to host him, as Columbia has done - I have no problem with them doing so, but any such institution that does so should recognize that the freedom of speech which they are ostensibly promoting also extends to those who are critical of their decision to provide a venue for Ahmedinejad, what he represents, and the platform that such an appearance presents for him to further political aspirations that are fundamentally at odds with both the freedoms the values which are encoded in the First Amendment. I don't think he is a nice guy. But neither is Putin, the Saudi royal family, or any number of current international leaders. Why single Ahmadinejad out when many others are recieved with open arms? It's because of a perceived link to the 9-11 attacks. It's because our administration doesn't like him.

That's why I thought it funny. NY, NY said security was the issue, but I'm sure it's more to do with the fact that he is openly hostile to the US.

I like the Grivel Air Tech Evo. The BD Raven Pro and the Venom are good too. With a little file work, any of the Grivel axes will do. The regular raven does not perform well because it has a cast head making the pick thicker than that of forged heads. -
If ignorance was a reason to blacklist a person... I still like that he has the chutzpah to stand up to the US. The best part was when he asked to visit Ground Zero. He's deposed bin Laden as head of al-Qaeda now? WOW! Huh?

That is a sorry-assed limp-wristed thing to do. I'm having difficulty understanding the outrage at having Imakabob speak at Columbia. He isn't an international criminal. He isn't actively at war against the US. He openly criticizes the US and thinks that our administration is fucking things up. So what. This country was founded on disagreement and now we choke on it.

Because everyone needs pictures of roadkill around. A couple of my friends stop and take pictures with roadkill every chance they get. A recent trip to Montana had them very busy.
