We are gong to liberate Iraq if we have to kill every single Iraqi to do so.

And just to keep the confusion to a bare minimum....the term 'avatar' is used differently here at cc than on every other internet BB I've visited. EVERYWHERE ELSE, the little picture under your name (like my Mona Lisa/happy face thing) is called your 'avatar', and the name you post under is called your 'screen name' or somesuch. HERE, the 'avatar' is your screen name(s).

I'd say that you are an irritating attention whore who hopefully will tire of this site right quick. After hearing what a "great guy" you are from our mutual friend, I am blown away to see what a flaming asshole you are.

Heh, it's also a bird without feet. That's some piss-poor evolution there.

Ya know, "Martlet", if you don't like the quality of the discourse here no one's making you stay and participate....

recovering from surgery-removing hardware
marylou replied to marylou's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
Brad, I had them taken out because I was trying to get rid of some pain. Not sure yet if it actually did me any good yet, but with insurance and an active lifestyle, I was willing to give it a go. In my case, with an ankle thing, it's a weight-bearing location. Steel (screws) flex less than bone, so it's possible that having a couple of non-flexing pieces of steel in there was causing some of the pain. It's hard to say, as there are a number of things in there possibly contributing: bone spurs scar tissue reduction (original surgery) not getting bones exactly the way they were before arthritis (for sure) reduced range of motion, contributing to improper body mechanics....leading to other problems In other words, in my case at least, it's hard to narrow it down to one thing. The surgery was pretty simple, covered by insurance, and something to rule in/out pretty easily. If you think your hardware is giving you trouble, get it taken out. I wouldn't encourage unnnecessary surgery, but screw removal is super simple, and the sooner you get it done after the original work, the easier it is for the surgeon to find the screws without doing a lot of excavating and chipping. The docs never pushed me to have them taken out, rather they told me that it's an easy potential fix. In your case, if it's 5 years, be prepared to accept that you may have arthritis in there, which having screws removed won't fix. Good luck, let us know what happens. -
I plan to do a trip in August or September (probably the latter) that will involve crossing Challenger Arm. The objective is Luna Cirque, and we will be heading from the west via Hannegan Pass via the route descibed in Beckey and elsewhere. Beckey would suggest that you need real true blue mountaineering skills to do the Challenger Arm part of the trip, and this makes me a bit nervous. I'm fine on the ice axe and crampons part of it, and have ok navigation skills, but mountaineering skills, well....hm, not really. I know how to rock climb, tie the knots, do a belay, all of that kind of stuff, plus routefinding etc etc, but have no glacier experience. The Challenger Arm part of the trip probably represents half a day to a day of a week-long trip. If you were in my shoes, what would you do (besides some training to get strong) to get ready skillswise for such an endeavor? This is an ambitious trip for me for sure, but other than the glacier business, within my current skills. Also, that time of year, what are we looking at, crevasse-wise, on Challenger Arm? No spray, pleeze. Thanks for any help.

I just got my paws on some old magazines. They are from '73 to '75. Pretty cool to see the designs, esp. the tents and sleeping bags. What is new right now, is also old.

Recovering from whatever....leaving in the AM. It won't be fancy, but it will be outside.

I'm happy to pay an extra buck to buy my USGS quads at Metzgers.

I'm sure those ridiculous-looking glasses you wear all the time will protect you from self-mutilating yourself.

Well, DUH! It is totally okay for the good Doctor to do it. I think that has been established here. I suspect the old Klenkster's trying to cover his bottom with this "chucK coined a term" deal because he knows damn well that only DFA is allowed to do that...and now that geeky punk-ass science boy chucK is probably going to back him up on it, like it's all true and stuff.

The abortion issue is a deal-breaker for a lot of people.

Klenke speaking of Klenke in the third person is giving me a headache.

Ok, I'm tired of geekspeak on tildes and tics. Most overused word in the language, hands-down, no second place: AMAZING used so much it's completely meaningless....

McCain is anti-right to choose on the abortion issue.

Nothing wrong with non-cotton undergarments.

Yah, it's really not the MS thing....more like it just isn't working for me.
