No, there is no proper rationalization for why Ken should get to drive in the HOV lane, even though he is just one guy. I'm willing to bet even he realizes this. KEN! IT'S BAD KARMA TO ILLEGALLY DRIVE IN THE HOV LANE! A lot of people wouldn't dream of doing it, because they feel it isn't fair, or it's ging to get them tickets, whatever. Ken rightly points out, however, it's his decision to make. Ken, do the right thing, man. Get a motorcycle. You'll save a ton of dough on gas, commutes and parking a problem will be a thing of the past, and you'll get a fun pastime out of it in the mix!

When I put on my AT boots (with Thermofits), they feel too tight. My toes hit the end of the boot, though just barely. When I ski or tour in them, they are the most comfy ski boots I've ever been in. It's counterintuitive to ski boot fit that a boot could hit my toes when I put them on and be good when using them. My limited experience say perhaps your boots are too big....think a little tight rather than a little loose.

We were too late. Sat night at Ski Bowl, raining to not raining and heavy. Broke my own rule about not skiing in the rain. Today back to the Ski Bowl, which is startlingly reminiscent of Ski Acres, for full on spring slushiez. All in all neither the skiing nor the conditions hoped for, but our three compatriots with their "power snowplow" technique got a good workout on black diamond groomers, and a few tips (like get some weight on them! don't look at your skis!) and an all-in-all fun weekend of what I affectionately call "family skiing." It was downright HOT up there today. FWIW there is an online coupon for Ski Bowl, half off, (on their website) so it's as cheap as it is low-quality.

The expose "In Sam We Trust" is out-of-print in the US despite popularity. I've suspected that WM may have had something to do with this, though unable to confirm. I recently bought a copy from a place in England, where it is still in print.

Rob, thanks. I found a listing of a whole bunch of places in HR that are part of that program.

Can you stay at Mazamas if you are not a member? Yes, 40 bucks a head gets spendy when you are talking about 3-4 adults and 3 kids. That's 240 or 280 for one night. Car camping with kids this time of year sounds like not a lot of fun.

I looked at the Huck's website, looks a bit spendy at 40 bucks to sleep in a bunk. This Beast Western, is it cheapish? We stayed in one last w/e in Wenatchee and it was like 80 bucks!

Hey, we are doing a little family ski trip tomorrow and Sunday. Plan is to night ski at Ski Bowl Sat. Night and then do Meadows on Sunday. Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay that's fairly cheap and not all that bad? It could be as far away as Gresham, but closer would be pretty cool too. TIA.

I have a pair of them there Mistrals too. Really comfy. They are not the most wind- or rain-resistant, as the fabric their made of is on the more stretchy and light-to-more burly continuum of softshell fabrics. The Mistrals are either Schoeller Dynamic or Dryskin. If you want to go more on the burly end of the spectrum, you might want to look for pants made of Power Shield (that's a Malden fabric), keeping in mind that it's not super stretchy, so you want a precise fit, even better some strecth panels sewn in to ease movement. I have a jacket made outta this stuff that I skied in a ton this year, love it.

Proudly packaged and shipped by union labor, that's why. Is that true, or are you just proving what an ASS you are, in case anyone was confused about that....

Ok, I just went to Staples for the first time and I've got a couple of things to say: Why the HELL is canned air so expensive? I mean, six bucks a can? Be real! And why do places have greeters? I find the whole greeter thing mighty annoying. I don't need to have a relationship with the crew at Staples, just to maybe buy a box of them.

Is any of it any good? Can't always buy basil in the store...any brand that doesn't suck? I bought the Roland kind in a jar the other day and it was way nasty!

Hey, Off, don't let being a blue-collar working stiff keep you from setting up a retirement plan!

Yah Will that's a tough one. My 401 fund choices don't include a "green" one, so it's a bit of the lesser of evils with the investing. Generally small-cap stuff's not as bad, and it's been reasonably fruitful for the most part. Life is full of contradictions, and it can be damn near impossible to make the right choice, or know everything there is to know. What's your point?

Is there a way to block someone from sending you private messages, but still be able to see their posts?

Raw. The only ingredients my hummous gets are chick peas, tahini, lemon juice, salt, garlic, and parsley if I have it.

Is that the clip that's on the purple skins? Mine kept getting unclipped yesterday, and I too was wondering if I was a gumby or if the clip maybe no fitty my skis...

No, I was smoking crack. The orange boot, the Laser, that's the one with the little holes in the sides for the Dynafit bindings.

I like Fern's advice on this one. One more thing...a lot of people here are wearing boots with some kind of Thermofit liner. I love mine, and most everyone I've talked with has said yes, this Thermofit thing is the plabbest thing ever. Some boots have it as an option, and some have it standard issue, like the Scarpa Denali. The Denali also takes Dynafit bindings. Some do that and some don't do that.
