I don't know if this helps but, REI in Seattle, flagship one, was selling the last years model of DMM cams for almost half off. I believe DMM is doing a major redesign cause these weren't selling. They are kinda high tech looking. Anyways, lots of big sizes for under thirty $$$ you might check the B'ham branch if Erik doesn't read this first...Oh that's right, he's a sport climber BWAHHHAHAHAHAHA!

Basically, we have created a situation where a large portion of our population lives in third world conditions and expectations. I am not surprised at what happened. Expect more of the same as more of the cream gets skimmed off the top while the bottom starts falling out...

This is what I find most puzzling: it was apparent - days in advance - that something major was about to happen. It was apparent that a major population centre was going to be at or very near the epicentre, and that it was unusually vulnerable to this type of event. Wouldn't we use the advance warning period to start mobilizing resources, and getting them in position ready to move in as soon after the quake as possible? Wouldn't we use that warning period assembling stockpiles of food and clean water and medicine, rescue and medical personnel, security forces, transportation...? I find it hard to believe, but by all appearances there was absolutely no advance preparation done at all, despite the clear indication that this was a massive hurricane heading directly toward a major population centre that was known to be particularly vulnerable. Bush was on vacation.

All I know is that there is someting strangely sweet and alluring when you look up at those ribs from the Cascade River Road. Gotta Go. Gotta See My fantasy has been to ski the C-J Couloir. Not a healthy inclination I'm sure...

Middle America has that "keep it simple, stupid" mentality. And they aren't too comfortable with people having better sex than them. Or Niggers for that matter. And the thought of Brown/Yellow/Red people getting ahead really ticks them off.

I find it interesting that there is so much looting. Was this the case in indonesia, Somalia and india after the tsunami?! This is a telling event and it is troubling to watch it unfold.

Chat is still there but it functions weird. I can see the top of the "active topics" page but I can't get to it. Is anyone else interested in chat? With Muffy not present and getting on with her life it does seem a bit empty...

U.S. YOUTH CLIMBING TEAM HEADS TO CHINA Forty-three American climbers between the ages of 14 and 19 are attending the 2005 World Youth Championship in Beijing, China, Aug. 25-28. The youths will compete in three age groups in lead climbing and speed; more than 350 young climbers from around the world will be competing. The U.S. team was chosen in early July in Massachusetts at a comp organized by USA Climbing (www.usaclimbing.org). The AAC, as the U.S. member of the UIAA, is the sanctioning body for competition climbing in the United States, and has designated USA Climbing as the sport's governing organization.
