There's a bolted line between a .9 chimney and .10+ finger crack. couldn't locate it in viktor's book. (it may be a reading comprehension problem) anybody know what it is?

sheesh! impatient aren't ya? we managed to climb on the 7/17 on madsens buttress. the smoke wasn't bad at all. i can't imagine that there's been a lack of climbing in l'worth even w/the closures. you're just greedy

you'd be surprised how difficult that book is to get hold of when you're in n. idaho truth is we weren't going to commit a whole day to anything so chimney rock was out. next summer for sure. if i'd known i was going to laclede i would've asked for beta but it was a last minute thang. it was great. truly a pleasant surprise. for those who might go to rocks of sharon. if you do find the right parking area. take the right hand road NOT the left. we added a ton of extra distance w/that decision

After my original vacation plans went horribly awry, we decided to head east for a couple of days. We climbed at 2 crags that turned out to be well worth the change of plans despite the fact i've been pining for some alpine. first stop was Laclede which is just a bit west of sandpoint, id. not a huge crag by any stretch but lots of good routes in all grades. we found both slab and some fun cracks. super short approach, solid rock, not busy. well worth an afternoon. the views are nice by the noise from the hiway is a nuissance. rocks of sharon, just south of spokane, turned out to be an adventure. we picked up marty bland's book and followed the approach directions. at the time of publication there apparently weren't issues with access. seems like there might be at this point but we may have been a little off course. it's well worth the 20 min hike uphill. great rock. lots of climbs. no one around. because the book was vague regarding anchors/rap stations on the gear routes and we were short on time we mainly stuck to some of the sport routes. these were very solid for their grade but really fun climbing. the cracks on the triplets and big rock are gorgeous. the rock is good and the area is quiet. it was easily in the 90s but there was good breeze to make it tolerable and lots of shady belay spots. pictures tomorrow.

No kidding. Football teaches kids how to do things they are somehow not learning at home: how to be responsible, keep track of their own equipment, how to respect other players and, most importantly, how to respect adult authority figures. The sport gets plenty of negative press, mostly by pencil-necked media types who couldn't handle running sprints in high school. For most kids, however, football is a positive influence, teaching fitness, teamwork, commitment and courage. I can't say that about sport climbing. Pope- don't be a dick. i resent the implication of your statement. a) you have no idea what values (if any ) i'm instilling in my child. b) who said i wanted him to sport climb-- he's a boulderer!

children regularly do things to torment their parents. admit you all did and probably still do. my offspring has chosen organized sports as my form karmic retribution for not learning to play the violin, not joining a sorority, and not wearing frilly stuff. so after experiencing a couple of days of football practice, it dawns on me last night that this is the equivalent of the mountaineers. the kids are split up into groups with some "coach" who then teaches them the same basic drills over and over. they clap their hands and yell stuff out in response to the coach. there's an overwhelming amount of equipment to keep them safe. then to add insult to injury the kids were called over to the coach to have tape with their names on plastered to the fronts of their helmets! my son is effectively a mountie!!! but it's fun to watch my kid do anything

i will be busy w/other things that day and therefore not able to attend. hopefully there will be future meetings or perhaps an e-mail list for minutes of the meeting?

do i need to bring them peanut butter too?

ok, you guys are worthless so far! i said the lower 1/3. east or west is fine. we'll be driving north from central WA so it doesn't matter. we're just looking for some new ideas. we have no plan, no itinerary, no schedule. a few hours one way or the other doesn't matter. do i have to register my sammiches at the border? is jelly ok or is it controlled too?

oh sure get picky! anywhere in the 1/3 of BC. how's that for specific? plans are nebulous at this time.

as part of my upcoming vacation, i'd like to include some alpine fun in canada. we'd like to go for something that has a lot of 5.6/5.7 pitches. we'll go for a tougher approach for some fun climbing. what are your favorites. we have a couple in mind but i'd love to hear something more original than what we've thought of.

i prefer another shop to FF, i'd rather shop at FF than REI. Good down products and worth going there for that. H/E last time i was in there my SO and i wanted to look at some boots. We were the only customers in the store. Sat around and waited and were ignored for a good 15 minutes and left. I'm sure that doesn't reflect all their employees but it does reflect on the 2 that were their that afternoon. I won't go out of my way to go back. At least at some of the smaller shops, if it's busy, i at least get some acknowledgement from whomever is working. When they do get to helping me, I get good service. I'll take that over being ignored any day.
