"perfect practice makes perfect"
said to me by a former coach while a bunch of us were whining about hard the task was. followed by
"why bother practicing to do it wrong?"
spent the early AM at index until it started to get a little busy, had a wretched breakfast at the index cafe, headed for l'worth, had a nap, climbed a few pitches in perfect weather at l'worth, saw some friends, had some beer, came home, the end.
thanks everyone! sounds like tahquitz is on the list. i'll probably have 1-2 days to climb there. any more route recommendations. sounds like i'll definitely be conservative w/my choices.
as luck would have it, this fall i may have a couple days in which to climb in this area of CA. my original intention was to spend the time at J. Tree. Someone suggested tahquitz as an alternative. i don't know much about it. comments. opinions. thoughts?
i agree w/that!
i do think that there's been some good points made in this thread. regardless of the merits of those arguments there are folks in trouble on the mountain and i truly hope they're OK.
Chirp, respectfully, i think that is an assanine statement. I really don't believe that climbers are more casual in their route selection or judgement of a situation b/c they're carrying cell phones.
i would assume that nearly every climber who undertakes a route like lib ridge would assume that they would have no cell phone service and if they do it's just good fortune. i can't imagine that climbers are counting on cell phones to save their asses. most areas in the mountains i have no cell service. i still throw that phone in my pack just in case but by no means am i relying in any way on that phone if i need a rescue.
yes but if the "friend" is breathing she could get most of the single guys on this site.
Breathing and has nice cans. C'mon, there ARE standards after all.
Or regularly shearable in the winter.
you shear sheep in the late spring... not the winter. you might end up with a frostbitten ewe if you sheared ewe in the winter!

(actually, I just wanted to keep one of these quote pryamids going...like in the "old days")

you're all a bunch of wussy boys. it's a damn pansy who feels that it's necessary to have a big truck to get anywhere. i'll take my dainty little mazda complete w/large dent anytime. (oh by the way...one of you is going to have to drive to the TH but i'll meet you at the store for carpooling and buy the beer) i miss my jeep
i've got a couple pairs of skis from the 80s that i would happily donate to a home. i'm moving. get them out of my hair.
