  1. I've had LS Nepal Extremes for 4 seasons now and they are still completely water proof. I don't know if any leather boot can really be classified at a "winter mountaineering" boot but this is probably as warm as leathers get. If you are moving I think your feet would stay warm, but I wouldn't want to 'hang out' in those boots in the winter time.
  2. Until now, I've never cried because of something I read on cc.com. wow. I'm touched. I really didn't expect things to end this way. Happy endings are great.....
  3. why don't you go give them a blow job then and let us talk about our choss heap??
  4. I use the stuff all the time and love it. works great for me. I got some at the OR store (50% off) a while back, and I've also bought it at REI (repair department).
  5. "They have in common this: They love taking risks," I don't completely agree with this. This statement is too broad. I like taking calculated risks, and I dislike taking unnecessary risks.
  6. No straps on the bottom. I can't say I've ever seen a climbing pack with those, but you could certainly have them add those to the pack. IMO, storing something on the bottom of the pack would really get in the way. I'd rather have it anywhere else than on the bottom. Top, sides, and back all seem like a better place to strap somthing on. But to each, his own.
  7. Nice! How did the snow route coming down off Whatcom to Perfect Pass look? Is the rock gear you listed the rock gear you used? thanks.
  8. "Yeah, I bet somebody somewhere can go under 4 hours. I don't think I can safely do that with all the people on the trail. Mainly if somebody asks me (and people do), "How fast can you run Whitney?" It would be nice to say it was verified by so-and-so. But I'm starting to think it doesn't really matter. I doubt I will get into the heated controversies like Hood and Rainier. And if I do, then USA Mountain Speed Climbing might have to offer a Whitney Challenge... " was there ever any doubt??
  9. Yes, sometimes I find these situations are awkward too. The most awkward times is when you think you may know the person coming, but you don't want to stop and talk to them, and you wonder to yourself if you can pull off the "I don't see you" act. Or at work, when you pass a co-worker in the hallway (etc), do you say "hi" again, after you just talked to them like 15 minutes ago?? Maybe I'm a social freak too??
  10. Good work. thanks for posting. Sounds like a good trip!
  11. No you are not asking too much. I would definitely write them. I have a pair of Kayland Multitractions that are suppose to be water proof. I'm starting my second season in them and last weekend I had standing water in my boots after (actually only one boot) 4 hours of hiking in the rain. I was thinking about trading them in for a pair of the Trango S EVOs... not now! PS - I have a pair of LS Nepal Extremes and they are totally and completely waterproof even after 3+ seasons (granted I've never done this kind of test on them though!)
  12. Vacant forest roads abound just outside of the park entrance.... its cheap and quiet!!
  13. I have 3 CCW packs including the Chaos. Love it. I've special ordered all mine directly from the company though since they do free custom modifications. Then pay shipping, no tax. I don't like tool tubes either and got the regular attachment system on my Chernobyl. I've never had a problem carrying heavy loads with it, but then again I don't like to carry much.... Nevertheless, I may try this plastic frame sheet idea for the Chaos. where do you find such a place? by they way, FF in seattle carries CCW packs.
  14. I don't think you do if you start from the Ingalls side
  15. now, you're on the right track Chaps
  16. oops but back on topic (and so I don't seem like a total sprayer ), I just did some non-climbing gear related activities this weekend: sharpened crampons, ice axes, etc. waterproofed boots, gear shopping, etc. Now I'm ready for something....
  17. again with the 'nice' slamming. try throwing the 'f' bomb in there every once and a while. Or if you're not ready for the f'bomb yet, how about "you are all ass holes"
  18. The funniest part about this thread is the title is still nice: "this board is so silly". He is trying to slam the board but does it politely. He could have said "this board sucks, you're all a bunch of losers".
  19. December is one of the best months to be in Thailand. its not too hot then.
  20. I was with Toast and know the victims. His point was these folks were on a road trip, with their truck packed full of gear and maybe they didn't have the luxury of space or money to bring two tents!
  21. they are so damn polite over there. I read like 5 or 6 responses and no one bashed the original poster. WTF? I got bored and came back here.
