  8. leave the wands at home. they aren't necessary on the DC in July.
  9. Keep looking - I don't do 2-man glacier travel (so far). We carry a second rope all day for a 3 or 4 man team. My buddy did a two-man team with some random idiot, other guy didn't watch the tension, rope draped down into a crevasse, got mega snagged, had to cut the rope. Trip = over. Extra rope might have been nice. Super random, but happened. okay, I'll keep my eye out for it...
  10. I did so now I take out my "on routes like the DC" and my statement still stands. I don't know any 2 person rope teams that carry a second rope for standard glacier travel.
  11. No offense here, but I don't know any 2 person rope teams that carry a second rope for a route like the DC. What would you do with the second rope? (rescue situations?)
  12. Most people use a 30-35 meter rope on Rainier (for a rope team of 2-4 people). If you know what you are doing (i.e. that you do not need 50+ feet of rope between people and in fact this is quite unsafe, slower, and not necessary) then a 30 meter rope is quite reasonable and preferable for Rainier and other glaciers in the lower 48. (this does not mean that if you don't know what you are doing then you should go with a 50-m rope....) The diameter is an all together different issue. 8mm is on the thin side, but not unheard of. I for one like a slightly thicker diameter rope for Rainier (and other glaciers), but if I'm sure plenty of people use an 8mm rope safely.
  13. This pack is still for sale. Its brand new. Some one has to need a pack out there!
  14. Finally got around to weighing these items. Rain jacket weighs 7.5 ozs. Pants weigh 11.4 oz.
  15. Homemade leader's pack for sale. Weighs 8.8 ozs. Removeable foam 'frame-sheet' can shave an ounce or two and then pack doubles as a stuff sack. My buddy made this for me but I never use it any more. Small internal pocket, removeable 'hip-belt', draw cord cinch around main body, single ice axe attachment, and reflective tab (hence bright spot in picture). Someone is going to ask how big it is - which is valid question - but I'm not sure. 20 liters if I had to put a number on it. $25 obo. 16. Finally got around to weighing the mitts. The BD mitts weigh 12.1 oz, OR mitts weigh 6.6 oz.
  17. I'm selling a Jansport Eichorn 60-L, mountaineering backpack. Its brand new but I have way too many packs and need to get rid of a few. Fits torso lengths 16-19" via 'grid-fit' system. 4 lbs 11 ozs. You can go to the Jansport webpage(click) for more info on this pack. Asking $150 obo. I live in the Seattle area and could meet up to save on shipping if you are local to me. PM me here or better yet email me at: balderach at g m a i l dot com [img:left]http://cascadeclimbers.com/plab/data/516/IMG_25651.jpg[/img] [img:left]http://cascadeclimbers.com/plab/data/516/IMG_2564.jpg[/img] [img:left]http://cascadeclimbers.com/plab/data/516/IMG_2571.jpg[/img]

  20. Outdoor Research rain jacket and rain pants. $30 each or $50 for set. Jacket is really light, 6 oz I'd guess. Full front zip and 1 chest pocket that jacket stuffs into. Rain pants have full side zip and are probably about the same weight or slightly heavier due to two full zippers. Both are size XL. I live in Seattle or could ship. PM or email at: balderach at g m a i l dot com [img:left]http://cascadeclimbers.com/plab/data/516/IMG_2632.JPG[/img] [img:left]http://cascadeclimbers.com/plab/data/516/IMG_2629.JPG[/img]
  21. was up on July 29-31. snow starts just past sch. meadows (~3500ft) but trail is easy to find and follow. (mostly) snow free switchbacks up ridge to Moro. meadows then easy to find the railroad grade. no problems staying on the trail/bootpack and then railroad grade trail is snow free (mostly). good camping between 5500 and 6500 near rocks and toilet boxes, or you could go higher of course and camp on the easton proper. easy route finding (follow the boot pack or your heart, its all easy) up the easton. no sketchy bridges until around ~9000-9300 ft. where there are a couple of 's' turns over hollow feeling bridges. in a week or so you'd probably want to go slightly climbers left and head straight for sherman crater notch. roman wall was super sugary, punchy snow. should/hopefully consolidate with time. hope this helps.
