The FAA can help with that: I recall a story where the Canadians decided they had better test their jet canopies using the chicken gun like the Americans were doing. After smashing several canopies they were completely perplexed. Finally an American advisor said, "these chickes are frozen, you have to thaw them out first".
  2. This is a bit cryptic, but it seems to imply that he fell on the belay.
  3. I'd heard a rumor that the belay tree at the top has died. As I remember, it was gradually losing soil at its base from people walking there. Anyone know anything about that?
  4. The longer routes at Sunshine Wall, such as Party in Your Pants, are of that length, 25-30 meters.
  5. What he said and protect your exit moves (sounds like a Gilliganism doesn't it?). There are more than one cracks coming off that ledge. I believe the one on the right is somewhat easier than the one further down to the left. I guess what caught me off guard the first time I led that, was that the crack is somewhat flaring. You can get jams but it's not trivial. It's possible to place your cams right where the best jams are so consider that too.
  6. If you have a multi-tester you can check out the voltage put out by the alternator yourself. If you alternator is putting out insufficient current or voltage (or too much) your battery will not last as long. I don't know how to check for this but occasionally cars will have minor shorts that can drain a battery as the car sits. If the car doesn't get used often, as you say, even small drains can be significant. It could be a small light staying on in the trunk or glove box, even. Leaving the lights on, to the point of needing a jump start, will kill a battery if you do it repeatedly.
  7. Ask Kat. She was just there on Saturday.
  8. Yesterday I noticed a similar block on the last pitch of the NF of Concord Tower. Very tempting to use as a hand hold. It is just below the summit.
  9. It's not just you. I'd consider that rude too. If you see him again, tell him you'll be on the route ALL DAY LONG, maybe all night and into the next morning!
  10. New leaders consistently underestimate the difficulty of the moves off that ledge. It is perfectly protectable, yet people fail to adequately protect those moves.

Tripod doesn't like linking, do they? Anyway, that is my son on the end, Mr. Weekend_Wanker. I'm on the left.

  13. Large sections of both the road and the trail are washed out. I've heard it can be a challenge negotiating these sections.

    You play the socksofone?
  15. It's my belief that CG wants these routes to be climbed. He and his partner put in a lot of very hard work. Take it for what it's worth, but he says these are "world class". On the other hand, one of his buddies tells me that he says that about each and every new project. You got to credit his enthusiasm.
  16. Actually the toxicity of acetone is pretty low as organics go, but I get your drift. I'm sure if you can name it, they dump it.
  17. Everyone should be held to the same environmental standards- ours, at least if they want to sell to us.
  18. I've noticed that the exposure risk is much greater in hot weather. The oils are transferred more readily and likely are absorbed more quickly through the skin. Also one is more likely to be wearing shorts. I haven't had trouble removing residue from clothing. Washing in a machine with hot water and plenty of detergent should do it. Commercial is probably a good choice, as front loaders are more thorough.
  19. DUDE, THE ROJ WAS TOTALLY A CAP'N. AND HE WAS TOTALLY ON DEADLIEST CATCH. WHAT KINDA BAIT IS ROJ DRIVIN' THESE DAYS? Don't you just hate it when you forget to log out of your "regular" avatar and log back in as one of your alter avatars before spraying?

Do you ever play with musicians?
  22. Care to elaborate? Are you defending styrofoam?
  23. That stuff is great. It dissolves in water. Just put it in the sink and wash it down, or flush it down the toilet. Much better than styrofoam!
  24. Aside from the fact that the guy is an ugly Nazi, what he did was to take advantage of an act of kindness, that is medical treatment, to murder someone. This alone is what makes his crime among the most heinous possible. It reminds me of what Islamic Jihad does on a daily basis, lobbing mortar rounds on checkpoints at the border involved in bringing humanitarian aid, such as food and medicine, to the Gaza Strip.
