  1. Does not the route go from 5.9 at that point to 5.10b? 5.9 Climbers no longer can do the route.
  2. Yes, I was curious about the same thing. Seems like it would be a good alternative to Dessert Dyke for getting up to the next level.

    Go Tacoma!

Way to go! That blood concentration would be lethal in most people.
  4. What ARE you talking about, Seahawks?
  5. Yes, the first story is interesting but the author doesn't have any ideas that are actionable. He just says we should hold on to our cherished Western beliefs.
  6. Well I was at Vantage the other day imagining what it would have been like to have been present for one of the 100 or so drainages of Glacial Lake Missoula.
  7. Well it's a lost battle and you keep bringing it up and wringing your hands over it. That road was probably the worst road in the entire FS system. It ate cars for breakfast. I've had damage on two different trips. I wouldn't drive that road, even if it were open.
  8. Being from Southern California, I can say that Bellevue is striking in its similarity to Irvine.
  9. See for me I think the difficult maneuver would be, trying to keep my eyes on the cute French girls climbing the next route over without my SO noticing. Man, you like to take big risks!
  10. Traditionally Freon was used as a blowing agent in foam production, but alternatives are being phased in to replace it. Much of the foam used in ice chests is polyurethane. Some of the gas comes from the chemical reaction in the form of C02 and the rest is added agent such as n-pentane.
  11. God pulled the plug.
  12. I don’t care if you can detect a heartbeat at one day…..it is still not for you to tell me what I can and cannot do. Quit trying to push you’re agenda on me. Don't try to make it a simpler issue than it really is. It's very complex. Society and government can and do tell you want you can do.
  13. Do you know about the camping on the Tieton River? Can't vouch for the fishing, but it's close to good climbing and a pretty location.
  14. It seems hard to believe that the same virus that infects humans can infect a simple organism like a coral polyp. The solution is better management of sewage. Not only would that reduce organic carbon in coral reefs but it would reduce exposure to viruses. 12,000th post. Woo hoo!
  15. Sure they supported that closure, but it wouldn't have happened if the Forest Service didn't want it. There are no trees to cut up there and hence no economic incentive to keep it open
  16. I agree they don't call them "cramalots" for nothing. They can really make up for the shortcomings of those desperate leaders who are too sketched to place a cam properly. That seems a bit harsh, don't you think? Easy placement is a benefit, not training wheels. I meant it tongue in cheek, but there is a kernel of truth to it. They are more forgiving. In reply to Rob, I've used WC Tech Friends, Old Style Camalots and the C4's and the C4's are probably the easiest to manipulate in gloved hands. Those are all better than my Clogs. I put cloth tape on the end of the stems of the Clogs to improved the grip by the thumb. It seems to help.

  18. Right on wirlwind!
  19. I agree that a lot of progress has been made, but it has thus far been in mice. We've cured cancer in mice many times and have not been able to transfer those breakthroughs to people. My understanding of the new technology may be faulty, but this is how I currently understand it. If you make a human stem cell, you'll still have to go through an embryo to get it. The recent breakthrough allows one to do it without starting with an egg. The end result is virtually identical to what would be obtained using fertilized eggs, except that it is a clone. Conventional cloning has used eggs in which the nuclear material has been replaced with genetic material from somatic cells. In this case, they've used four genes inserted via viruses to trick a somatic cell into "undifferentiating" to become an embryo.
  20. I know there are many of climbers who climb a lot more often than once a week. I'd go nuts if I only could climb one day a week. Granted the gym is a poor substitute sometimes, but it must suffice.
  21. If you have step-ins with quick release, this isn't too time-consuming.
  22. You have the POTENTIAL to become a somebody at conception. You are a living thing. You are not a person. You and I will never agree on this.

    Buzz

Anything that promotes the use of condoms is good.
  24. Faulty reasoning, that's all. I "came from" a primitive primate on the African savannah, 10 million years ago. That doesn't mean I AM one.
