Sleeping bags are probably the hardest thing to give advice about because some people sleep warm while others sleep cold. I sleep toasty warm in my old REI 20 degree bag when it's 15 degrees out. If you are not already sleeping in all your clothes, then you are carrying more bag weight than you need to. I used a 40 degree bag on Rainier last July at Emmons Flat and was plenty warm. I used the 20 degree bag at Muir Hut in February and again was plenty warm to the point of having to take clothes off.

I likely will do a big slog with marek and possibly with klenke to get in shape for Rainier.

"let's assume that the He3 fusion plants have been proved out..." We aren't any closer to fusion as a power source than we were 30 years ago. It has been estimated that it will take another 100 years to develop the technology. We may blow our selves up with nukes long before then.

If we can figure out how to make fusion work by producing more energy than is used. If we can get back to the moon. If we can figure out how to mine the helium-3 economically and get it back to earth. If we had some ham, we could have some ham and eggs, if we had some eggs.

Sounds like a plan. Get the 50 m, especially if your 60 meter rope still usable. Get a 9.4 mm diameter if you plan to use it for alpine, but then don't use it cragging. They wear out too fast doing lowers, etc.

I like the idea of a free shooting range in the area. People who would leave trash simply aren't willing to pay to shoot. If you can concentrate the shooting in a managed area you might get control of the problem. The question is who is going to pay? Surely there must be volunteer groups of gun enthusiast that could do this.

That is really sad. A few arrests and jail sentences would go a long way towards changing people's behavior. It's worse than the Wild West up there. They cleaned up the Snoqualmie Middle Fork, they can do the same for the Sultan Basin.
