  1. Thank you Dru, I did not know that.
  2. Teach creationism if you want. Just don't teach it in science class and don't call it "science", because it is not.
  3. Cut tax and spend. Why don't we all just quit our jobs and then max out our credit cards?
  4. Notice the snaps. Along with the star, it shows that it was all planned carefully. You don't rip leather that easily. It's kind of funny how all the network executives have to make public shows of righteous indignation, when privately they had to be ecstatic about the whole thing.
  5. Got a link to the you-know-what?
  6. Billy, I know your are making a joke. It has nothing to do with the anchor. You can break your tie-in or your harness, or strain your back.
  7. Absolutely, if you are really mad, you can always use a gun you already own.
  8. Views and theories are not equivalent. A view is a belief. Beliefs are mental constructs that are not supported by observations in the physical world. They are supported by readings and testimony of other people who hold similar beliefs.
  9. Oh man, they were trying to milk tears at the end with the farewells. They went on and on. That ruined it for me.
  10. If you are using a spectra daisy, or any other sort of sling, you had better not have much slack in it, because even a small slip will result in a large shock load on it.
  11. Creation is not theory because it is untestable. If you want to teach it, don't teach it in science class. Teach it in social studies class.

    GEEK!

    That would be Johnny 2.0.1.
  13. A resounding NO. Creationism is not science because none of it can be tested by observation or experimentation.
  14. It was mentioned by erik in the other thread that you can always girth hitch a shoulder length sling to your harness if you want a personal anchor. The sling does double duty and you save weight.
  15. It's a good thing for Middle Earth that Frodo Baggins isn't given to rolling around in his sleep on bivy ledges, as he never tied in to an anchor.

    GEEK!

Okay, so little Johnny 2.0 grows up and decides to make two copies of himself. Those copies will by known as Johnny 2.1 and Johnny 2.2. Is that right?
  17. Back in the 1970's, Sigg offerred the Tourist cook kit for the Svea 123 stove. It featured an integrated base, windscreen and nested pots. Heat transfer was efficient, it was light and it was resistent to tipping over. I still use the pots, battered as they are, although I've since switched stoves.
  18. All hail, the new Thread Resurrector of 2004.
  19. I posted the link for the benefit of Alyosha. You were one one of the people who contributed to that thread. I am not disagreeing with you. There is no substitute for tying in with the rope. The rope is strong, dynamic and cut resistant. I still use a personal anchor in many situations. For example, I think it was Dru who mentioned it in the previous thread, if the leader runs out of rope just short of a belay stance, you can untie the rope from the anchor to give him another couple feet and be safer if you are tied in by means of a sling of some sort.

    GEEK!

Someone needs to explain to me under what circumstances the number after the decimal point would change.
  21. The issue of personal anchors was all hashed out previously.
  22. When rappelling you are not tied into the rope.
  23. Karhu still makes a three-pin leather touring boot.
  24. There you go again, Chuck, dragging us all back to reality, kicking and screaming.
  25. You can make a Purcell Prussik Tie-In. This is a continuously adjustable personal anchor. I made one out of 6 mm perlon and tried it for a while. I like it for alpine climbing, but not for sport or crag climbing.
