  1. Crack climbing and working as a massage therapist or physical therapist.
  2. I got this recipe from a very old and falling apart Betty Crocker Cookie Cookbook my wife has had for ages. I modified it like a mad scientist, but the results were fantastic. 1/2 cup shortening (replaced 1/4 cup with Olive Oil) 2 squares (1oz each) of unsweetened chocolate 1 cup sugar (replace with brown sugar) 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 cup applesauce (home made from freezer) 2 eggs 1 tsp vanilla (didn't have, so left out) 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 cup chopped nuts (used walnuts) (Added 1/2 tsp powdered cinnamon) (Added 1/2 cup raisins) (Added 1 pkg of Maple Brown Sugar Quaker Instant Oatmeal) Heat oven to 350 F. Heat oil and shortening in a large sauce pan on low heat. Add chocolate and stir until dissolved. Turn off heat and add remaining ingredients. Stir to mix. Spread in a greased and floured baking pan, 9x9x2 in. Bake until top springs back when touched, 35-40 min. (used glass dish and 40 min). Cut into 16 bars while still warm. Eat while still warm. Enjoy.
  3. That is an approved use of the Power Bar. However, whatever you do don't bite into one.

    The answer?

If it explains why Bill Clinton never started a war, then what does it say about George W. Bush?
  5. Moderators, move this to Spray...Doh.!.. it is already in Spray.
  6. See also this related thread.
  7. The current mass extinction has been selective. That is, it has been selective for non-human species, particularly tropical ones. A comet induced extinction might not be so selective.
  8. Israel declared war on Hamas. Back in January they said they were going to kill this guy. They are usually true to their word.

    Spray away

Lummox, you mean like an extra chromosome 21?
  10. Earth has a mass extinction every 30 million years or so because the sun passes through the plane of our galaxy at that frequency. Stars passing near the Oort cloud dislodge comets and asteroids which plummet towards earth. This happened last about a million years ago. You may think, "whew, we dodged a bullet, didn't we?", until you learn that it takes a million years for the comets to reach earth once their orbits have been perturbed.
  11. Isn't it good to know that not only could our government not do anything were an asteroid detected that would strike the earth, but neither would it even be able to warn anyone? Story
  12. Bummer. Sharing the road with automobiles is the part of cycling I like least. It's a little bit like lightning or rockfall to a climber. It can be managed, but not controlled.
  13. Don't forget, Snugtop was real. So keep your hopes up boys.

    boot funk

It is important to dry out your boots quickly after they have been soaked. I take the foot beds out and put them in front of a small fan, which dries them in a couple hours versus more than a day without the fan. Every hour your boots stay wet, the fungi are chewing up the leather.
  15. Castle Rock was completely dry. It was great climbing conditions. Ran into mattp and his friends Chris, Mark and ------.
  16. On the Burke-Gilman trail: a tandem recumbent bike, a recumbent trike and two different types of hand cranked recumbent bikes driven by paraplegic guys and they were flying along at a good clip. I love it when I see people overcoming perceived limitations.
  17. Coming back from Castle Rock we noticed a new snow slide up on Windy Mountain that went right down to ground. It was relatively small in area, but was right in the middle of a bowl at the top of a big avy gully.
  18. Those sort of rules are pretty universal. Who knows why they exist? I guess because the gyms are trying to sell their classes. It seems rather silly. They are going to make more money from the new climber's gym fees. More likely, their lawyers told them they would be more liable if someone was injured on the same day the belayer was trained.
  19. I don't know about that guy. I think he could be dangerous.
  20. It wouldn't have made any difference had you told them this information. Doubtless they had never seen nor heard of a Munter Hitch. If it is unknown, it is DANGEROUS.
  21. I remember your having said how much you hate glacier slogs. Go out and do a couple and you'll remember why you like rock climbing so much.
  22. Klenke, that was a geeky thing to say, even for you.
  23. Oh, yes you can and they do.
  24. If we had McCain as president the Republicans would have a man they could support in good conscience. Hell, I might even argue on the side of McCain some of the time. There's a man who has honesty and integrity- a real straight shooter, the sort of guy climbers admire.
  25. Thad is our new speling be champeon.
