  1. Besides pickup trucks, all of these drugs were advertised during the NASCAR race yesterday. What does that say about NASCAR viewers? Just an observation.
  2. Undoubtedly a sporto.
  3. Nice work guys, sounds like you hit it in good condition. Toast, did you use any snow pro? Was it icy enough to take pickets or flukes?
  4. That's strange because I have never had any of the problems which you describe.
  5. Nice work. Major envy factor going on.
  6. One of the things I remember about the Aiken Lava Bed is there were these rock "islands" sticking up through the snow with miniature gardens of alpine trees that to me resembled japanese gardens complete with bonsai trees. They were quite beautiful. I've got a picture of them somewhere.
  7. Klenke, your new title, "volcano bigot", is an apt on.
  8. Gotta love Gary Trudeau. That guy must thank his lucky stars every day. GW practically writes his strip for him.
  9. What were the temperatures when you set out and when you were on route?
  10. Man, that was beautiful. It belongs in the Post Like Klenke thread. Oh, wait, that thread doesn't exist - yet.
  11. We were looking straigth up at your route yesterday from the top of Pinnacle peak. Gib Ledges looked pretty good from there. You nailed the weather for sure. There was a faint lenticular up there. It was hard to say how much wind there was- at least some from the north. Whether successful or not, please post a TR.
  12. I think that blue_morph has made one of the best arguments against user fees. His argument is not that the fees are a barrier to entry to us fanatics, but that it is a barrier to "discovery" by those new and unfamiliar to outdoor recreation. That if it were true would be a real shame.
  13. What he means is that he didn't have a clue where he was at the time, but he did have a GPS with him.

Gowans, I had no idea the climbing yesterday was THAT scary for you. Feeling lucky be be home in one piece? Just kidding, mate.
  15. Everything tastes like chicken. Everything gives you cancer.
  16. Leejams and I took a look at the South Rib on our way to the South Spur last year. The protection looked sparse. What was it like? Easy enough to not require protection or what?
  17. Last time I checked Leuthold's Couloir is on Mt. Hood.
  18. I did it in 1999 on snowshoes and wished I had had skis. This year you should be able to reach it on skis into May. Go for it. If you plan on climbing Adams, I suggest you camp on top of South Butte at ca. 8,000 ft. There are good views and it is far less windy than the lunch counter.
  19. He was hoisted by his own petard. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.
  20. The answer to the question is dependent on marital status and whether SO/Spouse like winter climbing.

spain dint go to war in iraq. wtf? Spain provided troops for non-combat roles such as anti-mine and medical support.
  22. Climb: Castle and Pinnacle Peaks-South Face Date of Climb: 3/13/2004 Trip Report: JGowans, matthew and I drove down from Seattle and arrived just after the gate opened at 8 am. After a fair amount of fiddlefarting around at the Narada Falls parking lot we were off at 9 am. The snow was hard enough that we carried our snowshoes, but half way up the slope we started postholing and had to put them on. Walked Stevens Creek road to Reflection Lakes and caught up with a couple of older gentlemen who were out to climb The Castle. They asked us to Gear Notes: Don't need a rope for Castle, you are confident at downclimbing. Most would want a rope to descend from Pinnacle. Brought crampons, but didn't really need them. Brought a picket and fluke- used the fluke once below the gully on Pinnacle. Brought a small rock rack, but didn't need it. Approach Notes: Need snowshoes or skis for the hike out on the road.
  23. Lob a few stink bombs at them in the dark. That'll clear 'em out. Either that or just go down the road by the river where it is quiet. Winter once said you could find some 14 year old hotties fresh from rehab looking for some action down there.
  24. 43% and a "Pretty Serious Climber". Both tests were pretty funny. I know E-cock wanted to find out who the gay climbers were, but I see he isn't getting the information he was after.
  25. We have four cats and a dog that come and go, as they please, through a doggy door set into the bottom of our back door. The doggy door has been there for about five years. We recently acquired a second dog, a Dalmatian, named Maggie. Maggie is new to dog doors and somehow she managed to dislodge the flexible plastic door flap so that cold air was coming in. Before snapping the flap back into place, I decided it would be a good idea to wash it because it had a brownish grey goop on it. So I took it to the sink in the kitchen and ran hot water over it and used a sponge with some baking soda to it. It turns out that the grey goop was congealed snot and drool from countless passages of animals back and forth. When wet it reverted to its native conformation which is essentially snot-like and gelatinous. It had a pungent odor which is very difficult to describe. Suffice it to say you would have had to have been there to get the full effect. Anyway, the flap cleaned up nicely and is again doing its job of collecting nose slime and keeping the cold out, hopefully for the next five years.
