It's time ! Lots of new snow and the level is low. I'd suggest getting a sno-pass and chains for your vehical, heading up hyw 35 from Hood River, or up hwy 26 from PDX, pulling out where you see a group of cars and heading out towards the trees. Basically what sweatinout said. Of course, being otherwise well prepared with maps, compass, cell phones, firestarter, etc etc etc etc. Course you can get more elaborate with the planning if you want: but the time is now - enjoy! They don't sell downhill gear.

I'm planning on buying a pair of new (thats "brand new") ski boots soon for downhill. Going high end full $. This is a big departure for me as the current pair I own are the most expensive I've ever purchased at $100. The last pair were $15. Where in the pdx area do you recommend I go to get them. Looking for a good knowlege-selection- pricing matrix. I've had good results at US Outdoor - but just saw another post from someone dissing them. Advice for downhill ski boots? I'll get the best ones for me, that fit well, but where do you recommend going? Thanks: Bill

Welcome to my world! Bit of advice: get married, buy house, have kids. Then the disaster will be complete and the stake will be firmly planted in your heart for at least 20 years until your decrepit old body is too infirm to get out. Have a nice day.

What's a savings account? Nice call, better duck down first, and I don't know if he'll start being any nicer.

Damn, how the hell do you fall flat-assed sideways onto a rock (even sandstone!) and only walk away with bruised ribs? I figure the kid has only 8 lives left...MAX! WTF is that? Rubber ribs? If we could figure that out and sell that, it might make helmets obsolete and us rich. Thanks A5 and John for the show. My mouth is open! Great pics!

I'm gone for a week and the world turns upsidedown. What happened to the Nolse avatar? John, you got a JOB? WTF ? I'd better check to see if a democrat is running the country next. WTF happened here?

yup, forgot: thanks Afive! Sorry - but that's just funny, can you blame him? Better not get her around Fred Beckey. Lonnie was looking fine dude. I second that idea, then the one after at Garys gym, then maybe Stoneworks. I'm buying the first round for anyone named John. I'm back in town Nov 21st, but don't wait for me though.

Hemps advise is good: (sky ridge might be windy and cold though) If you make it to thin air, and that area is very dawg friendly: there are some real nice shorter routes in that area which you can view from the ground and decide to jump on or not: must do's right there in that area - Delirium Tremons called 10A but it's probably a well protected 10b or C and Round River like 5.4? . If you make it over to the west face of monkee and Spiderman per the recommendations above, there are lots of routes in that area which are real sweet, area is somewhat dog friendly: take a shot at Monkee Farce 10B takes thin wireds and aliens, Moons of Pluto is a bolted 10d that should be good later in the day when the sun hits it. The warmest place will be the dihedrals as the sun hits there first and it's protected somehwat and you will most likly find it a crowded not so dog frindly place (less people now than earlier though), but it's crowded cause its warm and the routes are good. And theres a lot of real good routes in the range you mentioned all through there, some bolted, some take pro. Zebra-Zion is the very best (and clean too despite what I say in a moment) in that area IMO but I like long moderate trad and it's like 4 pitches of 5.9-10a with the last pitch maybe being one of the best anywhere at Smith at a well protected 5.8. I won't do it anymore if there are folks down below (most of the time) altough the loose stuff should be plenty gone by now. (long story) Others git on it all the time with climbers below and I haven't heard of anyone below being killed or hurt yet, and people do wear helmets generally. To my credit, we got on the route and nobody was there, and someone wandered up after we were like 2 or 3 pitches up. I cn't spell for crap. Have fun!

Well- can't speak about the show but the highlight of the evening for me was drinking some beers with the tribe at Low Brow. Approx 23-24 folks crowded in pre-funk pre-Timmy and tried to talk over the noise. Nice. Met lots of new folks and some old ones too. Nice. Anywho, being American with a short attention span, I bogued out early when the show handn't started at 7:02pm and I realized I rather be with my family so I tooted out. To those who said hi, it was great to meet some of you- although I'm unsure what peoples online personas are since you all had different names and seemed real nice in person. Lets get out some time. I'd like to thank everyone for not kicking my ass for some offhand remark I probably made years earlier which should have offended you. Jimmy O was there and was discussing a get together of the tribe, so if anyone knows Jim, or you climb at Beacon (thinking Mike Layton and Marcus both no-shows (?) at the show), give him a jingle to get the info, or Joseph as well - I'll be out of the country with Ujahn in Red Rocks so I won't be there. Thanks again for the beer Johnny!

Are we about to witnness a "I'm smarter than you " contest again? -
Kunza Korner at Smith always seems empty/devoid of lines and hordes of climbers and brings me great happiness. That and I can often show up radiacally out of shape and crank it anyway. That fact alone always adds a star or 2 in my mental book. Must be the long 1/2 mile of flat trail-extreme hiking which keeps people away.

Nice call Iain. BTW, is it true that Dru is triple-recycling toilet paper in his house. Use it twice to wipe. Then it gets burnt in lieu of firewood, the ashes go on the garden.

Sorry, can't make it: I'll be in a family way during that time period. Maybe next time? Enjoy!

Chilliwack, B.C. - Home Depot was sued by a shopper who claims he got stuck to a restroom toilet seat because a prankster had smeared it with glue. Dru accused employees of ignoring his cries for help for about 15 minutes because they thought he was kidding. "They left me there, going through all that stress," Dru told The Chilliwack Times. "They just let me rot." The lawsuit, filed Friday, said Dru was recovering from heart bypass surgery and thought he was having a heart attack when he got stuck at the North Surrey store on the day before Halloween 2003. A store employee who heard him calling for help informed the head clerk by radio, but the head clerk "believed it to be a hoax," the lawsuit said. Home Depot spokeswoman Kathryn Gallagher said she could not comment on pending litigation. The lawsuit said store officials called for an ambulance after about 15 minutes. Paramedics unbolted the toilet seat, and as they wheeled the "frightened and humiliated" Dru out of the store, he passed out. The lawsuit said the toilet seat separated from his skin, leaving abrasions. "This is not Home Depot's fault," he said. "But I am blaming them for letting me hang in there and just ignoring me." -------------------- Its not hard! _---------------------------------------------------------- Dru responds with his like, amazing, like superior intellect. With or without snow?

Early afternoon to later? I'd be down depending on timing.

Thanks again Mos. The writer dude clearly doesn't have it together, did'nt know what the route was? (WTF!!) It makes me wonder what the other 2 idiots would say about this dude if they bring it up. (Lance? Chad?) I think an ideal ending would have been say if Lynn Hill and Katie Brown would be walking by them in the parking lot: hear that kind of bullshit and just straight up kick some ass.

The truth for me: Climbing more. Working less. Period. Which I currently seem to have reversed.
